ESReality is performing some domain maintenance. This maintenance may result in some temporary downtime within the next week as a domain transfer takes place. Keep your hands and feet inside the ride and please do not panic.

Update
Everything seems to be functional after the domain transfer. Reverting this news to minor. Thank you for all of your continued support.

no, I didn't. the certificate is still there. we have been using letsencrypt that is not tied the DNS registrar for years.

What makes you think there is any issue with SSL certificate generation? Are you not able go to https://www.esreality.com/ without any issues?

I see what's happening now. I am in the habit of visiting "esreality.com", which does not have SSL certificate and neither does it redirect to canonical url. Going directly to https://www.esreality.com works fine.

You might want to add canonical redirects for esreality.com and http://www.esreality.com so they always point to https://www.esreality.com

This is how I do it via htaccess:

I also put this in the <head>, probably superfluous but I think search engines like to see it designated somewhere:

https://esreality.com/ actually does work. It's not possible to have the server (one IP) not support SSL for any specific domain, because SSL handshake occurs over IP, before the HTTP Host or referrer is sent.

Yes, I think http to https redirect is a good idea, however, some forms are posting to http or redirecting to http somehow, and doing a redirect might (I think does) break those forms. So, the only good solution is to change the PHP code where this is done.

There are also many instances of people making http links to the old content, and this currently addressed by a simple nginx rewrite rule: sub_filter 'http://$host/' 'https://$host/'; But yeah, when the site no longer ever directs to http, it will be possible to just use 301 redirect.

EDIT:

I have replaced a bunch of places that had http with dynamic x-forwarded-proto, which fixed edit + post forms.

yeah https://esreality.com/ works but just typing in "esreality.com" in a browser will send you to http ://esreality.com/

I think with the post forms fixed, a 301 redirect should be good to go?

Okey, I think I replaced most of the occurances, and enabled 302 redirect.

I had nginx replacing http to https but I turned that off now.

Oh noooo, that was a feature! ;)

It's been broken for years on https, and I think we even talked about it back when IPv6 broke or something. I said don't bother because main page, not to mention the ESPORTS READY thread, loads 10x faster when several frag movies are posted with embeds :D

Good thing there's not many of those recently :)

you can just make it show a <div> that contains static "maxresdefault.jpg" thumbnail, along with a centered homemade Play button replica, and some JS to replace the div with the actual embed once clicked. that way it only loads all the youtube junk after you click play. as long as you get the gradients, title font and button right, and turn on autoplay for the embed, it's visually and functionally indistinguishable.

you need google API to get the video title, but will still let you load a page with 100 youtube "embeds" in 2 seconds flat. or 0.2 seconds if you use lazy loading for the thumbnails.

this must be what p0rt felt like
