yes, i think q3 is the only game worth supporting atm, i never thought how good q3 is at 300fps, much smoother experience than quake live, but even than id made a lot of mistakes with quake live by really draining players of content in the first few years, and then everyone was frustrated with how slow quake live was developed, and now we came to loadouts and gimmicky champion mechanics from all of this nonsense, we got a game that neither pro players or casual players want to play.

When you thought somebody is trying to revive q4 after Joe Rogan said on his podcast that he's been playing it on a "Local Area Network" with his friends from UFC got me thinking...

I don't understand your logic. Quake 4 HAD modern graphics when it came out... it wasn't much of a success. Merely just giving it current "modern graphics" would lead to the same result.

The reason it "failed" wasn't because of the graphics. It really comes down to the multiplayer design/support itself. Look at CS:GO it's not the best looking game on the market.

If you're interested in playing Arena Shooters in the modern age their are plenty of options in the works.

if u sell the game as a sp game it will normally have a shitty mp support and to the casual eyes quake has always been another sp story to finish by killing monsters while ignoring the mp metagame of the genre.

ID's lack of support was the dead end of quake as a multiplayer platform.

i really hope u DM boys get a resurgence in the scene as u really seem to love this genre above all else. One thing that would prolly help u is to unify in one game. All this arguing over which game is best, never mind which mod / patch is ridiculous and obviously detrimental to the scene. Pick a game and think of ideas to attract new players imo.

Quake4 MP was a horrible game, altho at the end of its life it became a good game after alot of modding .

They should have made it a good game out of the box , and then with modding/updates it could be excellent game . This is how its supposed to work .

They screwed it up, too late too little , by the time it was a good game peoples first impressions were shot to the ground , as a quake player it was like beeing kicked in the groin , the disgrace of not even thinking about quake as a multiplayer game.

Now , i just ended my first ever UT(the new beta test thats out) session. And after raping all the other on the server i got a feeling.

If there ever is a new quake to be made, i would think they have to make a little different , not that much, but it cant just be quake3 all over again . Customer base is just too low .

Quake is a niche game,, but i personally do love it , but that doesnt matter does it ? It hs to make money , it has , its true!

BTW , in the UT pre alpha beta whatever they have 1 DM map made inhouse, like a proper map with proper textures n things on it, and with that engine, it looks really really nice.
And its fairly fast(in small maps) with that weird double speed jump, walljumps and crouchsliding. But as a quake player , missing bunnyhopping feels pretty horrible .

But only hope we got now, is DOOM 4 MP , right now feeling pretty dumb about not purchasing wolfenstein and getting a beta key when its probably soon will start . So alredy atleast theyr mentality of giving MP som thought seems so much more promising then quake4 groin kicking.

Don't count on that. Doom multiplayer will inevitably be based on hitscan, "realistic" weapons: chainguns, machineguns, shotguns, double shotguns, pistols, and the occasional plasma rifle and rocket launcher.

It won't be much different than Doom 3 multiplayer (with a better graphic and achievements and classes) and it didn't last long for that one.

The heavy feel just takes some getting used to. The movement is a lot faster than vq3 anyway.

i love this thread because it gives me a sense of what goes on in the companies, thye basically take a random thread by a random internet user and then use it in order to ask for billions of dollars to make a game that is complete trash and then we complain on the same website saying how this game ruined the community. but then we also ask developers to fix the game because we think that they still understand what they are doing.

q4 was the best quake in terms of gameplay.
then comes qc, following q3-ql. (q3-ql was lg only - so much wow!)
