I think there's a decent chance they'll back out and there'd be nothing really happen (compared to when Ukraine backed out of EU anyway). They'd go to Europe & agree something insignificant & claim the victory.

And I hope they do back out...at least until 2018/2019 when we can see if the EU allows Switzerland to enforce quotas (2016-2017 I think) while maintaining their current free trade agreement. Too risky to vote anything other than IN before seeing what happens to them.

Hemp has immense potential to produce energy in a cost effective way. Significantly less environmental costs to consider. Plus it employs more people than conventional oil jobs. 8% of agricultural land was capable of producing enough energy for all of America in the 80's. Even if that's doubled, about 15% lays fallow every year by policy. Fortunately hemp is a fantastic rotation crop. Did I mention that lawns consume more water than any other crop in existence? A lot of fertilizer too - most of it toxic to the earth.

Carbon neutral too, not that I'm convinced that shit is particularly dangerous in the first place.

You get yes men or people who stand up for their beliefs...what kind of MP did you vote in? If a yes man he will just vote yes for all Tory policies. If not then he may vote against something you're strongly in favour of/vice versa

haha, yeah the uni debts are pretty abysmal. It is true that people of my generation and age demographic have been royally fucked over by the government over the past few terms, however I'd give more blame to straight apathy when it comes to the notion of voting. if you look at the last general election, I think 51.8% of 18-24 year olds bothered to vote, whereas over 75% (?!?!?) of over 65's voted. we can obviously extrapolate from those statistics that the government's best interests aren't pleasing my age group, and I think it's that apathy that has led to a number of ridiculous issues surfacing in our country. It's even evident in the example you put forth about university tuition fees: they tripled, while the coalition government were happy to protect pensions and winter fuel allowance.

also, you can literally even check an earlier post in this thread (from 24th april) and I said I was undecided between the Conservatives and Greens. Politics is never a two horse race, and I think the massive gains made by SNP drove that point home (even if those gains were predicted by every man and his dog and also the exit polls).

Tuition fees are fucked up. Unis are getting way more than they need & we're funding 3-4 year holidays for many.

They should lower the funding per student; if a uni gives every student an iPad, provides course books for free & does fancy refurbishments then they obviously have more cash than they need. The loans should be refused for shit degrees that offer no realistic prospects too...if you want to waste years studying art/history then that's fine, just get your parents to flip the bill first.

+1 from me. I'm in my 2nd year studying computer science atm but it's literally just because of the job prospects. Experience (providing it's relevant) is arguably as valuable as a degree in some fields now anyway. I know a guy who graduated from Cambridge with a 2:1 in Maths and he's currently working as a tour guide. The whole university system has been overrated and overhyped just to try and steal our money, it's becoming almost as bad as the American system and it's a shame since it's the most negative thing I have to say about the conservative party's policies overall.

Yeah 24-26k is a standard grad job outside London & London isn't worth it unless you already live there. Her & another guy (colleague's son...proper nepotism) both applied for the same job then they decided to create 2 jobs & give them each 1...not sure if he went to uni but I guess so. Now he's pissed as he just accepted a new job (probs 28-30k~) and then found out about the contract plans :-D u/l

I wouldn't say luck is THAT huge but changing jobs quite a bit is important. At my last place a woman in my team was probably top 2 skills wise but she had been there like 15 years and they get no motivation to pay more so guys that moved there more recently (but not as good) get like £10k more

Unless you get promoted you'll only normally get 1-2k pay rise in annual reviews outside London whereas if you change jobs you can get at least a 5k bump (at least I wouldn't accept the uncertainty for less than that)

yeah, job security/certainty is in itself a huge plus the way things are going atm. As a student I can't even get part time work unless it's in one of the bars on campus or something, nothing makes you feel smaller than getting rejected by Tescos of all places :D

but I agree that if you know you're being bullshitted paywise it's usually preferable just to change jobs. Being a CS graduate you have that luxury moreso somewhat, although some people, however "skilled" they may be at their jobs, might just not be as employable for whatever reason and are forced to stay in the same deadbeat industry for 20 years. Sucks for them, but meh. :/
