Full albums man. especially those post-rock athmosphere'ish albums have a great flow and almost no real break inbetween the tracks there are guys who upload huge playlists of 30+ full albums in a certain style. So if you like one album click on the uploader maybe the guy has more of that stuff.

Nope. Considering the bands and albums that I enjoy, I usually like at least 9 out of 10 songs out of an album. They put emphasis on different elements, they all have their distinct positives and negatives. On a good album, they work together as one entity.

For any half-decent band, the quality of their songs is not independent from each other. I cannot possibly understand your black and white view, where an artist can have 1 song you really like and 9 others you find "shit". To me, it sounds like you lack attention and openness towards music.

Because experiencing art isn't about trophy hunting? It's not about finding those rare individual songs that by pure coincidence happen to perfectly satisfy your current opinions about what music should sound like.

Your taste will evolve. Some elements may be distracting for you at the moment, but in a couple of months or years you will like them the most. If you completely discard songs using as strict criteria as you seem to have, you are preventing yourself from evolving your taste. Art is not supposed to confine to your limited taste. It is supposed to be enjoyable, but also to challenge you and enrich your perceptions.

Nobody cares about your "playlist" as long as you don't care about the artists you are listening to.

Taste evolves yes but it doesn't mean there's a need to listen to shit in the present.

Even if you listen to shit in the present it doesn't mean that 2 years down the line you're going to remember tracks 5-7 from that album might not sound so shit any more.

I listen to music I like (rather than music I don't...strange concept) then 2 years later I might not like it so I simply listen to something else that I like at that time.

I have to say, I kinda agree.
I basically distinguish two types of music: There’s music that gives me a 'woah' moment, an amazing feeling that goes right into the heart, literally makes me weep or pumps me up to the point where every muscle tensions/tightens and only music has managed to achieve and then there’s music that doesn’t. It’s a very impulsive and non-intellectual approach. The piece by Wardruna Mr. Potat used in his fragmovie, Izhak Perlman’s rendition of the Zigeunerweisen (recommended to me by HAL_9000), multiple ouvertures (<3 Norma), the original faceeeeyyy (interestingly) or something like Liberi Fatali from FFVIII are examples of the first type. E: thinking a bit more about it, there’s actually stuff in between these two types, and that is just 'good'.

Albums very rarely consist entirely of the first type (kinda inherently), so I usually don’t listen to a whole album at a time. My music "collection" consists of a youtube list of songs/pieces that make me go whoa. Music of the second type can be great to listen to while doing something else (e. g. driving, cycling, some kind of mundane mechanical work, relaxed defrag), and that’s where I’m fine with full albums. But listening to one with 100% focus turns out to be very non-rewarding for 99% of them.

An album is not just a collection of songs (or at least, good albums aren't). A good album is a musical statement where the songs provide context for one another, so even if a song is 'shit' by itself, it might be great when played after another song. A good example is What's Going On by Marvin Gaye. There are songs on that album that make me puke when I listen to them individually, but when I sit down to listen to the album in its entirety, the sequencing creates a flow that let's me appreciate all the songs.

Think about this: shuffle is a relatively new technology. Until the recent past, when you listened to something, you had to listen to it in a certain order. A lot of albums, both old and new, are made with that mind.

Really, when I think about it, it's just a mismatch. Instrumental music probably only includes like 5% of popular, 'mainstream' (fuck that term) music and a lot of instrumental songs are musically dense too. So I guess most people who responded to this thread are the type to enjoy dense music that can be hard on the ear at first. If you have that purist attitude to music, then listening to complete albums make sense.

Don't be such a hypocrite. You like dense music aswell. In fact everybody does. Maggot brain is the perfect example. Its 4 chords played the same for 7 minutes and a guitar solo in e-minor blues scale. Don't get me wrong i love improvising to it myself and when i do i feel like the universe unfolds in front of me. The chord progression is absolutely genius. But theres no denying that it is musicially dense, as is a lot of appealing music.

Look at the song I posted literally below this. I love dense music, in fact I spend most of my evenings just listening and really trying to understand what's happening. but I can also recognize that other people listen more casually to music. That's okay, different strokes.

dense music usually means music with a lot of complexity, be it conceptually complex (like no wave music for instance) or just musically. Basically music that is hard to fully grasp for the average listener.

You will also get a different answer everytime asking his fans, there is no overall consensus really, plus it can and does change on a weekly basis because of the insane output pace...

I will say that it would appear Electric Seas is a very approachable and beautiful album that even non fans deeply appreciate. It came out in 2012.
