i prefer the redesign. i really dislike the white/orange 3d textures of curves, buttons and even fonts they are using. it's very gimmicky and unclean useless clutter. i much prefer steams aesthetic, and your design. i also would prefer if it was a flexible layout, and a tree/sidebar server browser that would let you mix gametypes/filters.
missing:
- suggested servers based on elo
- qlranks ladder / updater integration
- pickup displays
- embeded streams (if any going)
- reminder of upcoming cups / leagues / matches (google calendar style)
- customizable award case (which ones u the most proud of - for noobs)
- commenting on player profiles (obv players moderating their own wall)
- list of clans a player in (not just current one)
- integrated vod / fragvideo database (so many good matches will never be seen other than the 1000 players who follow ql daily)
- interesting / useless / fun stats: like most used model - 11m duels played since release - 34324 trillion rockets launched - 125 hackers banned the last 24 hours etc....
- favorite 3 arenas displayed on profile with winrate
- "nemesis" stats: keeping track of how u do against player u play the most
etc....
i could go on but whats the point right? fuck quake live really...... could have be so much better with so little effort... meh =(
it didnt meant to personally attack your or anything, also i understand even if ud want to make it to reality what i put there you couldnt (since only id could).
i just dont see the point in giving a different aesthetics to the site (that is not in my liking anyway) without improving its functions. its not that the QL site looks bad but its as funcional as what would you get from crossbreeding a brick and a potato.
however some things im sure could be implemented through greasemonkey scripts like qlranks integration, pickup displays, reminder of cups etc... id try to work on that rather than just changing some color...
Seems you choose the wrong person to address your concerns. Also, most of your advices are marketing improvements, they have nothing to do with game itself.
Just words contain ideas and the potential to be really valuable. This is the foundation of your work and the success for it. The more you put effort to this part the bigger the chance that the result of your job wont be a hit or miss, because every job has value if there is a market for it. What the anonymous did, was the most useful thing in this thread.
Now if your sole purpose was to only get positive feedback from the community for something that the community gains nothing from then I don't see much value in it.
Or if you don't care what others think because it's your fun then why post it?
I mean if you are already going to do something like that, then a medium where people could actually use it would reward and benefit everyone more.
Mate, everyone can talk, but there are few ppl who actually can do something useful. So, words has some power and even value, sometimes. Even you just keep talking =) Wanna make QL better? Please, go ahead and act.
What the anonymous did, was the most useful thing in this thread.
Anonymous was concerned by lack of some features that might be useful to keep more ppl coming, I have nothing to do with that ideas. I didn't say I don't like them, I just found his comments not really relevant.

I appreciate any feedback, even negative one. Right now we are arguing just because I found some comments not relevant, that's it. My purpose is to show some fresh vision with minor improvements that could improve overall user experience. Some of the improvements doesn't require to much effort from dev team, new look and feel is something that I want to have for the current QL website.
And on the page itself - kinda reminds me http://fraglove.com
Sorry, but it's far behind in a term of quality and style ;)
Anonymous just pointed out features that you could add to the drawing, if it already was a conceptual one. It wont be used by id as the ideas the community suggest also wont. So instead of making a vision what QL could be, you just changed the wallpaper.
Can talk and coming out with ideas are two completely different things. Those who know a craft are not necessarily the ones with best ideas.
And stop using the default quake live site. It's crap functionality wise compared to prism.
just to point it out...
do you know he made QL Visual Hud? Very useful btw thx namad! :)
I think he only wants to get feedback in order to (maybe) implement that work in the future, so he made a preview (ok, those are only pictures) to see if people is interested in it or not.
And basically what you did was draw a picture.
Yes, I did. But it was not just a restyle, I've added some improvements. They are not really related to the marketing functionality, but aimed to improve usability of the product. The devil is in details
I like it - the darker color scheme fits QL better IMO than the bright layout of the original, and the server image borders actually look better and cleaner than the official image borders. Feels much better on the eyes.
And make the site wide depending on % of the screen, not a fixed width. I have HD resolution and the whole site could fit on a screen with no need for scroolbar if it had at least 100-150px more on the side. It's a shame that 10 years later all the sites still have 650width as a web standard...I would say fuck those users with 1024x768 resolutions because HD is mainstream wherever you look around and it's time to upgrade.

Agree on this, the website should be "responsive" in order to give best experience on every display. Anyway, resolving this issue is a matter of implementation, there are no restrictions within the design itself.
Looks really nice, definitely a more impressive way to present what is currently on the site, and the little additional things you have. It'll be good for your design portfolio for sure, but in reality if were a real design then it'd be more suited to add things such as those mentioned above (community streams, cup/tournament integration, proper Elo system, etc.). Shame these things can't come to fruition!
I agree that having community stuff will add more value to the entire product. My concept can be good enough to move on, there are no restrictions to have more functionality on board. I understand that there a lot of disappointed players, QL doesn't meet their expectations. But there are reason for that, game isn't evolving, seems it's trying to survive, that leads to the lack of resources and poor financial support. We all know that there only few devs are working on it, the team seems too small in order to give more features. I was really surprised by the fact that they still able to deliver some updates. At least we have solid maintenance, which is much better that closed project.
I see a lot of ppl who continue to whine and demand something without understanding the current situation. Sad..
syncerror will NEVER go for something like this. you think brilliant ideas like this havent been done and pitched to QL dev team already before? good job wasting your brains on people who dont care about this game.
I don't think you are right. Adding new features and implementing new design isn't in their priority list since they are having financial difficulties. But I might be wrong, there are no clearance on how it's going
Some cool ideas but some I don't see ever being implemented like the different chat style (windows chat/google chat) looking UI.
The button changes and body color from white to grey could be done quite easily though and def. support it. A couple .css changes and edit a couple assets and presto, cleaner look.
I'm not too familiar with greasemonkey but I'm going to see if it's possible to atleast implement some of these changes through it. Wish me luck D:
mainly because yours lack contrast and thus feels irritating and scattered. dark-greyish elements with lightgrey font on a dark background..
the current design may have its flaws with the buttons and most of the gfx beeing bad but the "bright box of content" embedded into a dark wallpaper just works better imo
there is some good ideas, you could also rename the "Favorite" by "Most played" ex : favorite map : campgrounds repalced with most played map = campground.
