Q43A killed some time, most of it took a few hours here and there with patches and new features added and uploaded here every day or 2, and staarted it in 2010 when quake 4 was fully dead with year and a half of militia being dead

Q43A has everything, all bugs fixed and just needs some tweaks for pro games

If not that then it could be that if people know who he is, they can assume that this secret coder's original business is "off track", e.g. if it was a dice coder, it would affect dice as a company as BF fanboys would QQ for the next DLC being out of focus.

There are already plenty of worthy games that could be used of this nature that exist now, there are no willing sponsors so the game will not be played by anyone inc the existing quake community and the game will die.

The best bet would be to try and secure funding for quake live, but I suspect that reality would kick in pretty fast and some people would rather spend 2\3 years figuring this out the hard way as hope dies last.

Whether you approach people with quakelive or reborn, the problem will be the same.

holy monkey shit balls - as much as I want the legendary level designed of E1M2, DM6 and DM4 to be working on Reborn; I highly doubt it. James McGee does creative design and writing for games more-so than programming from what I've heard. Also I'm not too sure but didn't 2GD say that his programmer was located in Europe? James McGee from what I know has a games development studio thats located in Shanghai. Just theory-crafting. \o/

must be jesus christ. who else would donate 2 years of their time and all their expertise to become the savior of fps esports. romero would surely have his name written all over it in neon lights. i'd love it to be arqon but i don't believe he has commercial industry experience so that seems to rule him out. steve jobs is more likely to code this game than john carmack. notch has expressed an interest in quake and is definitely well off enough to work for free for the rest of his life but by his own admission he gets very bored, very quickly unless he's working on new features. i mean the names mentioned here are ludicrous.

i'm wondering why this coder wishes to remain anon. perhaps because he doesn't want a hareem of hardcore nerds hunting him down when he bails. perhaps it's for business reasons. perhaps perhaps.

2gd should have used the same philosophy as this coder and kept reborn under wraps as if he can't get this done it will be hard for him to recover from. he's a very smooth talker offering our dreams on a plate which makes me instantly cautious. however 2gd clearly cares about the community and we all want to see this game so i wish him the best of the luck, but given my reservations i'll believe it when i see it.

IF the programmer was actually quite a big name, then 2gd wouldn't put some coding test on him before hiring, since his cv would speak for himself (there go your romero theories).

so now that we've established it's no one big, it's probably a) no one at all, b) completely irrelevant freelancer in the industry, c) some random coder that happens to work for an important company.

if it's b) or c), it still doesn't mean he/she can't do a good job.

wether or not romero is working on it doesnt really phase me, as long as whoever joins the reborn-team knows what hes doing, all will go in the right direction :D

cube engine and coder is Wouter van Oortmerssen ? We got big industry figure (guy worked on CryEngine) and it is c++ which is what 2gd said was used.

Quake 3, and probably QL.

Unless you ditch QVMs, making the gamecode C++ is a bitch.

It's possible to port the engine code to C++, although (from personal experience) getting the whole thing to be properly C++ rather than C compiled as C++ is a LOT of work.

Maybe one day I should return to my q3cpp codebase...

More likely idTech4 I would port to ios, although that's not going to happen anytime soon since the only mac dev environment is at work (someone already has it running on android though)

i actually don't see ios as the main purpose, but a better oo c dialect, opengl and future ios capability are a plus though. i expect interesting new games for when apple comes out with a new TV.
