I don't know much about the difference in offers between the countries, but there's never been a world cup in any Eastern European country so that's at least one huge factor in why Russia is a better choice for FIFA. Watching Sky news today after the announcement was quite funny, just because England lost there just had to be foul play involved. As most people in this thread have rightfully pointed out the disparity in votes in the 2018 bid I'd like to point out the equally abysmal voting for the 2022 bid.

Qatar received double, and in one round nearly triple the votes of other countries. Personally, as an Australian, I am biased - who wouldn't be. Yet there are profound questions to be asked of FIFA and that fat crooked cunt Blatter.

I would have thought Australia to be the most attractive nom for 22. Never been in the continent before, it is already an attractive tourist destination, the stadia already exist (WC final at the MCG anyone? Would be amazing) yet we lose out to Qatar.

I am more surprised about the strength of Portugal/Spain bid. They are almost bankrupt. Spain has a ridiculously high unemployment rate and the banks there are in trouble too? But I guess this might be the strength of their bid. Both countries are passionate about football and hosting the World Cup would do something for them financially and maybe even something for their identity (it kind of did that for Germany 4 years ago).

I honesly don't see an issue with Russia really. While not the most football crazy country, there is some decent football going on. Russia certainly has the money to organize it.

Qatar is the one I am pondering about a little as I think they will not be able to provide the football vibe fans all expect. But it's 12 years to go. Maybe some laws and rules concerning alcohol etc. will be loosened by them (I don't have high hopes, but you never know). It would certainly be in the interest of their hosting effort. The recycling of the stadiums sounds awesome, but only time will tell if they will keep their word.
