"it is populated by a good many intelligent people who are capable of making rational decisions, but they are all relegated to valueless conversations that contribute nothing to gaming or the site in general."
Any new or recent player, can get appraisal of the community by acting rational and using humour and/or common sense (example: the uuuuaaaaaaa guy from portugal with his 3 comments against that french retard).
I have not seen new members being treated unfairly just because they are new. (and i can actually comment on this since i registered in 3rd quarter of 2009). In fact, quite a lot of gaming communities and portals are elitist as fuck and look down on new members.
ESR reaction can be compared to a group of friends going on holiday and random friend of a friend going with them. You don't know that person and until you actually see their sense of humour and how they act in certain situations, you will give them the benefit of the doubt. In my experiences, other places are worse. Please name me a gaming community which is not better than that and doesn't treat a newcomer like their name was "Ahmed ibn Saluujman Haji" and it was their first day at Hebrew school.
If this rly is your opinion, then I advise you should just unplug the internet
It's late. late in the evening. late in the working week. brian work not well. admins approve fast enough, and unless you have a good anti-spam system besides the barcodes thing, this place would be full of spam robots with "ENLARGE DICKS", "NAKED GAGA", "WOW GOLD FOR FREE" and "nigerian prince lost in airplane crash" opportunities. I can;t wait to get back from work tomorrow to be pointed out another turbo easy point i missed :D
This community would not be able to handle it. there are the majority of just users (whose ranks include heartless, OSEF, and many more) and we have trsuted users which is a special rank, even though with current hierarchy, it is confusoing. also brain failing me, will reply 2moro cos like ima be zombified for work again
already there exist multiple user levels designed to instill a sense of achievement
You're on a site where becks is a user admin, and I am a trusted user.
This site falls apart on a regular basis. ESR shop hasn't worked in... has it ever? The search function has been given up on, and now links you to google. Post history doesn't work past the main user screen. The posting function recently seems to randomly double post (I thought this was just me at first, and a simple misclick, but I've been seeing it a lot lately).
What do you want more users for, anyway? So they can make the same "WUT MOUSE/MONITOR/PAD DO I GET" threads every day instead of every week?
He means that if you want to turn esr into a more positive place it will take more than opening up anon posting. Instead you need to kill off the high level of trolling, but the problem is that is all that goes on here now,
Maybe you could get p0rt to implement this in the militia forum?
Ok, I think this flagging capability might be worth a try. If you want to look at the current codebase to see if you have time/motivation to add that, I will create an account.
