Lampard wouldn't get in the team either because the french need an out and out defensive midfielder like Makalele so Zidane can do his thing. Besides Lampard isn't even certain of a starting place in the England team why the hell should he be a starter in a superior side? The only players who could possibly get in the starting lineup are Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell and John Terry. But in other areas of the pitch England are clearly outmatched.

He started well but was really been crap as the season went on and just terrible in the closing stages of the season and if you knew the first thing about football you would know that Pires plays on the right for France and Zidane is on the left. i think gerrard is a better player than pires. i think gerrard will be the best midfielder at euro2004, lampard was also one of the best players in the premiership. beckham is always good when ppl arent accusing him of adultery, and scholes is awesome.

you think the england defense is our strength? clearly you havent seen england play recently. The england midfield is by a MILE the best part of the team, and is probably one of the best midfields at the tournament.

I dont rate makalele, i think butt is just as good and he cant get into the england 1st team.

I do think that the france have a massive advantage in strikers, owen and rooney are no match for henry and trezeguet. Both teams have a poor defense at the moment, might be 2-2 or something on sunday :P

Well I have seen them play an awful lot. But I really don't count english friendlys. Those are just bullshit. When it's a real game against a strong nation England tends to defend well. Against Turkey for example. And their defense was the only reason they got out of their group in 2002. As long as England doesn't play both Nevilles they should do ok.

Gerrard may be better in the centre of the pitch but Pires is by far the superior winger(don't tell me Gerrard is better than Vieira). And Scholes has been England's worst player for 3 years now. Shit in the World Cup and shit in almost all the other games England has played since.

And France has a poor defense? They haven't conceded a goal in almost a year and only conceded 2 in qualifying and with Desailly not in the starting lineup they probably have the best one.

English midfield isn't that great. They can't seem to solve the problem on the left and constantly leave a big gap there and that really is the achilles heel of England. Lampard and Gerrard may be better footballers than Makalele but he will defend and work better and that is the kind of player France need in their midfield.

First of all Zidane doesn't play in central midfield for France. He plays a free role in the team but most of the time is on the left. The two central roles have been shared by Vieira, Makalele, Dacourt and Pedretti. Guily only played in one game in qualifying as a late substitute for Pires and has only featured in two friendlies in the last year. Those four you mentioned have never played together in the same lineup and France always uses two central/defensive midfielders and one of those two is not Zidane.

Second I don't give a flying fuck about a friendly game.

and ashley cole covers the left wing fairly well on attacks anyway, i dont think the left side problem is a big issue when the rest of the midfield is so good.

i also think gerrard is better than veira, they r both good but gerrard works alot harder. and beckham is simply miles better than pires, who is good in his own right, but cant touch beckham.

not to mention trezeGAY is overrated by far. plus i just dont see how an icelandic guy can comment on the nature of football in england after we beat them 6-1 :)

As always with these type of games, it will be the "nobody´s" (compared to the team´s superstars) who will determin the outcome. All focus may be on Beckham,and Zidane, but the I believe some one like Scholes or Pires, will have the most important impact on the game.
