Official Announcement of the WCG 2002 Schedule
The WCG 2002 follows on the heels of the 1st World Cyber Games held last year. Official announcement of the official games and schedule signal the progress of preparations for this year’s event.
The organizer and operator of the WCG, International Cyber Marketing (ICM), has announced the schedule for the WCG 2002, the 2nd World Cyber Games, to be held over a six-day period from October 29 to November 3, 2002 at the Daejon Expo Park. It was noted that, “The WCG 2002 to be held at the Daejon Expo Park will be a worldwide cultural festival celebrating youth and this vision has been shared with the City of Daejon which has committed its utmost support for this endeavor.” Accordingly, the WCG Organizing Committee is set to hold a Host City Agreement Ceremony with the City of Daejon on May 3, 2002 to mark this momentous event.
ICM has announced that, “The WCG 2002 will be an event founded on the premise of the world’s largest game tournament and will be expanded to a festival of youth and the fun and exciting game culture.” In addition, it was stated that, “This year’s event will not just be a game tournament, but will serve as a celebration of youth culture and as a festival for great interaction among youths from all over the world.”
Through the WCG and this year’s second event, the effort to convert games into e-sport and to promote a healthy game culture among the world’s youth shall continue. The organizers have held to the ideology of the WCG and stated, “We want to continue to work toward expanding our ideology to lead the development of the digital entertainment culture by promoting harmony of humankind through e-sports and its embodiment in the ‘Cyber Olympics’.”
Participation in the WCG 2002 will include approximately 45 countries and 500 pla yers at the Grand Final in Korea. National preliminaries are set to kick off in May.
