nQuake is the number one game/client bundle for anyone who wants to get started with QuakeWorld on an amateur or even highly competitive level. It features a convenient installer that automatically downloads the shareware version of Quake along with the modern ezQuake client along with some other goodies and a tuned config etc. Recently some configuration updates have been made to improve the user experience even further as there have been a few usability issues creeping into the package. These are now ironed out, so check out the changelog, sample screenshot and download the game to get started!
Fixed an issue where config values that requires a vid_restart were not set correctly after a client restart. The values would only show up as "latched" values and requiring another manual vid_restart after launching the client. Examples of affected commands could be resolution and gl_no24bits. Fixing this makes for a less broken experience. (Thanks to Meag for hinting that wait commands in autoexec.cfg may be the issue)
Removed HUD config execution in triggers on_enter, on_enter_ffa, on_enter_ctf and on_spec_enter and also removed the vid_vsync toggling when going spectator. The config execution removal should also lead to a less broken experience. There are still game mode specific configs triggered that overrides some keys though, i'm tempted to remove those as well.
Added a HUD element between the armor and health bars showing the equipped weapon and its ammo. This is for improved visibility which is extra important when running out of ammo, which was not so visible before. (Old version and new version)
Slight adjustment to the score elements of the HUD so they don't overlap with health bar in 1024x768.
Disabled cl_weaponhide and cl_weaponpreselect. I guess this is a bit of my personal taste but i just think it's confusing for new players and veterans don't seem to use them anyway (they use custom scripts). Weaponpreselect also gets a bit odd with the new current weapon HUD item as it's possible to "preselect" a weapon you haven't picked up yet, resulting in the HUD element showing no gun icon and only the ammo count.
Changed default crosshairimage from 3 to 1. (3 wouldn't display anything in 1024x768)
Updated the readme with mainly information about Discord instead of IRC and updated dead links (qtv.quakeworld.nu instead of quakeworld.tv and also mentioning badplace.eu for server/qtv purposes)
Changes on 2017-11-04
New keybinding scheme (see keyboard image for most important binds):
Weapons now have traditional binds, i.e. no weapon scripts by default
Teamplay messages incorporated to greater extent
Teamplay powerup time script on scrollwheel (activate on F3 or F4 depending on powerup)
Shownick command is now used on same key as tp_point command (also made sure tp_point does not trigger on teammates)
Powerup glow enabled (gl_flashblend)
Fullbright skins not on by default for a more coherent look:
Teamskin changed to non-fullbright white
Enemyskin changed to non-fullbright green
v_viewheight changed to -6 (this is the "pixel perfect" setting)
Gameclock now counts up by default
Added correct QTV API URL (otherwise it uses the currently incorrect version from the ezQuake config, gets rid of the JSON error message in console at startup)
Moved team/enemy scores from bottom right to top right corner for better low-resolution compatibility (avoid overlap with weapons)
Included sample configs from the following players in configs/samples directory (thanks to supplier Dirtbox)
If you try again and get the same problem then let me know what mirror(s) you tried and whether you got an error message of any sort. I have no OSX experience myself but perhaps there is something else that's going wrong, or maybe i can get some ninja to have a look at it. :)
I have some issues as well on Windows 10 :/ If I open the installer it asks if I am trying to install nQuake offline.
Answer: no => "Could not download nQuake.ini". End of story.
Answer: yes => Setup wizard starts and tells what will be installed where. However, the installer claims it's all the size of 0 KB and claims that after the installation there were some trouble with it. All that was installed is a preset.cfg.
Any ideas? I would really love to get into QW after Quake Champions is such a disappointment for me.
Edit: Not quite sure which mirror was used, I just clicked the big yellow button on nquake.com. However, the mirror sites at the site bottom didn't work either for one reason or another.
The download of the installer itself has no different mirror options so you couldn't have done any other way so far. It's when running the installer that you'll have the option of choosing different mirrors to download the distribution files from, but you don't get to see that dialogue now as nQuake for some reason won't download nquake.ini and thinks you're running in offline mode. :\
Edit: if you get it to work or need further help troubleshooting then join the discord server on http://discord.quake.world as it has some helpful people. :)

I tried that, but the installer pretended the nquake.ini file wasn't there, resulting in the same error.
However, it works now. After trying one more time, my antivirus programme decided to tell me it has blocked internet access for the nQuake installer. After allowing it internet connection the installation went fine. No idea why I didn't get that message before.
Anyway, thank you for the quick reply. Keep up the good work maintaining Quake, it's highly appreciated. :)
