And also: Now that fnx and shpuld improved, I see them at an equal level as zoot. But IMO all three of them are not perfect.

Overall, Im happy that some guys still bother and actually let me watch Duel tourneys without an effort

Only available for Turbo members and it is still in beta, available since few days i think.

If your goal is to avoid flash then you can use livestreamer. Livestreamer extracts streams from various services and pipes them into a video player of choice.
Usages follows livestreamer [OPTIONS] [URL] [STREAM]. E.g. to watch a previous ZLive broadcast:

Let me stay polite, but he seems a bit noob and keeps stating out the obvious. And, at one point he even dared to say "PlayerX is chosing to pick away the armours from PlayerZ, even though he doesn't need them".. I mean, come on!
I think one should be much more knowledgeable about the game in order to be able to cast such high level games (like deep knowledge). But then again..maybe I shouldn't blame Faceit for this..atleast they have casters at all (and tbh I do like Zoot's calm style).

He's the only always available caster left. The better ones moved on to cast more profitable games.

Faceit is not the one to blame. It's the state of Quake. One day ins will win Quakecon by pretty much WO, when rapha and others retire, just like shpuld got the job.

I've heard this before, in reality it's going to be casters explaining things like "Those timers on the screen are not available to the players and they have to do the calculations in head" to which the response is nothing but obnoxious little kids spamming shit in chat, because that's the only way any CS:GO stream goes. And as a result the viewer count is going to be maybe slightly more than some interesting Zlive grand finals.

Honestly I want some quake guys to own in Overwatch, and apart from winz theres only cypher/cooller who are close to that kind of level

To me its extremely difficult to feel the difference between a mediocre OW player and one of the very best, like, in QL it would be 1700 ELO and 2700 ELO.

Movement - the same.
Shooting - the same.
Knowledge of the map - the same.
Skill how to counter each class - the same.
Basic teamplay - the same.

The only thing that differs slightly is teamplay, the quality and speed of team-based decisions, like, in-combat cooperation, switching to the right classes and calculation when to use which ults.

But you just won't see it on regular daily streams, because everybody is playing random mixes almost all the time. Every OW-ex-QL pro i saw, fazz, cooller, cypher, 2gd, et cetera.

And i dunno how it feels for the players (FUN, maybe?!), but spectator-wise it sucks miles of dicks.

You should get along with the idea of letters forming a words forming a sentence forming a paragraph etc meaning something at the very time.

The game is not small at all, I only said that the skill in ow is mainly connected with the teamplay and you just couldn't hop in at some pro stream and enjoy it, because mostly it will be random mixes. And it's difficult to differ the very best from mediocre while watching mixes, coz pros can't show their teamplay skill because of the lack of the very teamplay. And you don't have plenty of pro events every week, ain't you.
See, it's not that hard.

You actually do have weekly pro events in OW, even more than weekly.

And if you wanna see teams playing... You dont watch streams from individuals but event streams.

Also, yes, obviously teamplay is a huge factor in the game, but so is individual skill.

A good soldier stands out immediately. Just deals way too much damage. So do Genji (can win a match by his own) and Pharah ("are you a Quake player"?)

Come to think about it, with all characters the same effect happens, bar Bastion since that one is all about team play. A great Mercy wins points by herself, a good Lucio coordinates attacks alone, a good Symettra is crucial when defending, the name of a great Zenyatta player is memorable for many matches, etc.; and in all of those I as an opponent think "omg their Mercy is amazing".

On stream today he said he can't play, even though he wanted to because (as far as I understand) his sponsors won't let him. Understandable considering their team potentially might play at that 100k ESL lan.

I haven't followed OW at all so I have to ask: has any Quake pro had any appreciable success at becoming a Professional Overwatch Athlete?

DaHanG is in a team that's not quite at the top, but well grounded in the top 8 of the best teams.

Rapha, Zero4 and Cypher have done reasonably well when I've seen them play, but I'd say they should be playing at a level that's good enough to be like at least in the top 16 team in the world, if they can find the right team for that (or maybe better, it's hard to really tell how good they are when they're just one or two players on a team).

no, CS:GO guys are more successful. Not sure if entire teams are like copy-paste from CS:GO but there's no copy-paste quake team either.

Winz plays for Rouge, Top 5 EU. Cypher and cooller with Anox, top 10 EU. Dahang, id, for liquid, top 10 (maybe) US.

It has been set but we have a couple of players having issues with travel and are holding off posting it to see what we can do to accommodate.

A summary is available though:
Thursday 10-7 CDT will be Quake Live
Friday 10-7 CDT will be Quake World
Saturday 10-2:30 CDT will be more Quake Live
Grand Finals for both will be on stage Saturday evening. Finals night starts at 6 pm CDT.

In EU atleast we see random breakthru duellers once in a while, overcoming Evil or Agent, or both. Like Base or Pavel sometimes, for example, or Xig H. Killsen, when the the moon is full and Jupiter enters Venus.

But this US "competition" looks like a joke. Even the most exciting low-to-mid level bout between Zorka and Zero0 - it's not funny... They mistime, they leave items for minutes untouched, they fight long-range-20-rails-until-got-bored-or-out-of-ammo, they fail to perform any decent level of Quake, although we all remember Zero0 as Zero4 - the masterful sensei who waxed-on-waxed-off Raffer himself!

Love FaceIt to da bone, hope they don't quit quaking seeing this stagnant demesne in USofA...

Real life. He (like everyone else sane) uses his time on different things on his 40s than on his 20s.

He has the time to be able to enjoy the game a couple of days a year. Of course he uses that time to play tournaments instead of friendlies.

He loves other things too. For example he can't just no-life the game for a month before Quakecon to get proper practice, because he'd rather spend his work vacations with his family.

In 5 years from now the same will happen with evil and the other Russians that still somehow can and do no-life QL.

Nobody says "stop loving other things and do more quake!", what I mean is that grey uncoloured everyday routines are sometimes so much easy-to-follow, that instead of spending your free time on what you really love, one sticks to common practices, like watching endless stupidifying soap tv series, drinking a few litres of beer every evening and arguing with already hated bitchy wife, or trying to answer every 'hello' and 'like' in shitload of social networks, etc.

We all spend our vacations with families, girls, friends, extreme sports - anything. Nobody does no-life ql, quake is not an mmo or survival rpg or even shits'n'whistles sales fare like csgo.

I mean - if you are good at something and love it, AND it doesnt demand any comprehensive time resources, then you are able to enjoy this something as much as you can.

Zero4 must enjoy the joy of competing, rather than playing friendlies and pub CA. For him it's only appealing to play tournaments, and he doesn't need to win (or practice for that) since he already has won three Quakecons. When there aren't tournaments in the US, then he enjoys his other hobbies alike everyone does.

Unlike the activities you mentioned, it takes actual effort to duel. For resting after work it's much more appealing to watch something, rather than doing math (timing). Plus, spending time in front of a computer it's not much appealing after having done the same at work. Lastly, now that we all have money (except Jamerio) we have access to many activities that we now find more fun than playing the same videogame for the 99999th time.

The Russians do no-life QL. It's no wonder why so many of them ended up being unemployed in their 30s and late 20s, such as cooller, agent and cypher.

Compared to EU, the NA duel scene is very inactive and has been for a long time. People only recently started playing again because Quakecon is soon. Other than before Quakecon, it's hard to even find a duel vs a decent opponent at any given time.

I don't mind agent and I don't mind evil. Makes spectating more interesting seeing the game how player sees it. Also changing fov when switching followed player, everything that can differentiate players and make them more "characteristic" is good.
