Should be noted that fnghz (former clan mate!) uses an odd key config of sd strafes, m2 forward and shift as back.

A few players throughout quake history have done alright with a similar setup, but it's an unusual one. Gives a lot of stability at the cost of lowering finger mobility for other keys.

I have played in EU on a number of occasions as well as watched a few more EU iCTF matches then I care to admit. You aren't better than Silencap, kyzer, Mgee or even Spa1re for that matter. So how was my statement clueless? If you were to rank the top 10 iCTF EU players you wouldn't make it either. You play very lose and often are out of position and don't have much map awareness, move about as well as a blind kid that has MLS so you rely solely on your aim and your teammates to carry you. You aren't a difference maker on that team the way the others are. They could sub you out with many other players and do just as well if not better. Again this is solely my opinion.

sh0g might be really bad team player, but definitelly not cheat (imho) what happened is that someone waited for his account to expire (that was around dec 2014 / jan 2015, then started playing with obvious aimbot (again, im no longer in the scene, that is info i got)

Not true. You seem to not understand that the original question was who's the best Insta gibber in QL. As it already been pointed out just becuase you can rail in CTF or CA doesn't mean you'll dominate in iCTF as it plays a lot faster. It's a different gametype and like someone has previously mentioned there's no item mismatch to exploit. If your a top player in another gamemode odds are some of those skills will translate to other game types but won't necessarily mean you're the best at it. Back in Q3 when c9 (arguably the best team of all time) was winning everything they tried their hand at iCTF and while they enjoyed some success they also gotten embarrassed a few times and we far from being the same team.

That site is about as accurate as QLranks is, it's practically the same just for iCTF players. It calculates ALL games played in iCTF from pubs/pickups/scrims/matches and pools them together.

Intense CA 1on1 bouts arguably require just as much if not more faster response/reflex time than iCTF does, especially considering that you have to know how to dodge AND know how to utilize all weapons to your advantage. In iCTF you're just dodging rails (which is ez as fuck to dodge if you know how to strafe/manuever properly). With that said, it would be alot easier for someone who only plays CTF/CA to dominate an iCTF than it would be for someone who only plays iCTF to be able to do the same, considering they have no idea how to dodge or use any other weapons other than rail. im not saying it would be impossible, just that it would take more time and effort on their part.

You're right as you can't really rail dodge in QL like you used to beable in Q3 OSP due to the netcode change. Having played competitive CA and iCTF games in QL theres no question iCTF plays faster. It's up and down the map with flick rail shots and controling spawn points. 1 shot and you die and respawn and somtimes you'll kill the same guy 3 or 4 times coming in and out of the base with the flag and they can kill you just as easily off a fresh spawn unlike in CTF. CA is about runnng to point A or point B and doing as much dmg as you can before you die. It's more aim than teamwork based.

Of course this is based on iCTF without any variation to gameplay setting as that's what most "insta players" played in Q3 to QL.

You guys are good. Just not better then some of Sot's teams or naKed/zoticx teams were. Which pretty much killed the NA sense as nobody could compete with them. The NA vs eu thing wouldn't work as most of the better NA iCTFers are from the westcoast and given they would be forced to play on NY where they would ping 90-130s for a "home server" and high 200s on GB it wouldn't work out.

There was a NA vs eu cup before and the NA side won based on points and didn't even field many of its top players out side sot and Infin1ty. You put naKed, zam, ele, ice9, whaz, airrick, marky and wn on there it woukd have been ugly. Keeping in mind all thoes players are from Q3 and many have played with eachother for over 10 years.

Nah. No one knows why anyone gets banned except ID. I wouldn't put too much stock into their disciplinary system, especially when you have confirmed cheaters like Effortl3ss still running around (openly admits to cheating and claims he was just testing it lol....)

There are other cases where ID has lifted the ban on confirmed hackers as well.

I've never witnessed anything remotely suspicious from MD5 or Glow at all. Just because Infin1ty, MD5, and Glow are better than you doesn't make them cheaters.

The story we got is he was banned for account sharing as he had bought some QL prem/pro accounts for friends and one of them tried to hack and in got the accounts banned. He was supposed to play for us (osx) in WGA at the time but was away and hadn't been on QL in a few months prior to the banning talking with people that know him. Since then he has played on that zoticx account and hasn't hid who he was even putting in on his account.

MD5 and Glow did download a hack on alias accounts and have both admitted in doing so. Both were banned for blatantly hacking on those accounts. They both were convinced that most of the QL community were hacking and wanted to try and out the problem in their own moronic way. That had nothing to do with Inf ban as it was 2 1/2 years after his? So how did he share hacks among them?

From Q3 days, inf was pretty good, dutra, ckz (all from 1.16). airrick was great as well, naKed, kat, real1ty. Just to name a few of the top of my head.

Considering all the players i've played with, or just seen, in pickups and clanwars, imo some of the best EU players (aim + teamplay + game/map awareness) were: dafu (cenix), kyzer, zan, domy, hectic, ani, zyrinx, xzaero (hitting a lot with 90/100 ping).

From what I've experienced it's just the same people who rail rape in other modes like Zyrinx, Silencep, ani, etc. Dont think that I've seen anyone really standing out above them. Wasn't a tie I have the demos. Despite having a huge ping advantage over all when factoring the difference between the players from the home games and away games that EU had over the NA team. Also the fact that pzOr hacked his ass off (railing 70 on w2 with a 140 ping) and the lack of over all talent on the NA side based on server selection and the dumb rules the EU admins came up with (15mins games and you could only play one player 3maps) the NA still won on point total (had a +3 cap total over EU) your admins being as embarrassed as they were had to dock the NA team for playing samer_ 4 maps and called it a *tie*

wn/urgone is in a league of his own but he never played QL iCTF competitively. The rest of the CTFers you listed aren't better and never play it. The only 3 CTFers to have success in QL iCTF as far as in NA would be whaz, clampok and br1ck in that order.

wn/urgone came from OSP iCTF where he was the best ictf player in NA for years. that's as raw as iCTF ever was, competitively, imo. saying they arent better and never play it is a silly statement. at their level, why would they waste their time and bore themselves playing quake on training wheels?

KGB isn't good at iCTF at all. You don't get weapon mismatches or armour stacks in insta. His teamwork has always been questionable at best. It's just not suited to his style of play and he gets exposed and has raged a few times. He isn't even the best railer in CTF.

iCTF is literally point and shoot, and is often a bore to watch, even when fielding the best of the best. that limited skillset will only get you so far, whereas CA players at least have been exposed to utilizing all other weapons which will allow them to perform at least half-way decently in other game types (ie: Duel, FFA, CTF).

this is further evidenced by the fact that there are more known players originating from CA who have stepped out of there comfort zones and performed well in other aspects of the game than their are players originating from instagib who have done the same.

I can literally count on my fingers the number of players who have originated from the instagib scene who weren't afraid to learn the game in its entirety. Coincidently, most of them have already been listed in this thread as being in the top of their class, so i wont bother.

There was a team that obliterated the entire instagib scene back in the days at around 2006 till 2009. They were Polish and played 1.32 version of instagib.

They fucked every clan out there, including my clan that was one of the best and clanbase cup winners at that time. We either came first or second. UC came down to noghost and raped the FUCK out of everyone that was considered the best.

Having played instagib for 6-8 years, i must say that there is no best player that conquered the entire scene during this time.

But currently in QL i must admit that A$D poses the biggest threat for any Ictf team out there. Teams usually shit their pants when he is holding the middle position of maps.

After the clan Synergie went on a recruiting spree, they managed to get the best players from the best clans, hence the disappearence of a competitive Quakelive instagib scene.

Clans that holds good players in their roster usually attracts the best players out there, and synergie clan has a crazy roster with the most insane instagibbers i have seen.

Out of all the clans, only one clan could pose a threat to synergie and that was RE (royal-elite) clan that mostly consists of old-school railers. We never defeated them though.

I have not touched noghost since late 2009 so i might be ignorant on what is happening there. But in QL iFT we had every chance to win them, and so did they.

I just remember that we always ended up second to Syn. In iCTF we did not even rank since we had no prior experience in that gametype.

BC was nothing when they entered the scene of noghost, it took them several years until they could make an impact and actually win something. Still syn has been continuously dominant for a long period of time.

*more realistic (one shot one kill just makes sense)

*it is a great equalizer, everyone spawns ready to be 100% deadly, this means that you can't just camp red armor and mega and dominate everyone else and they have no chance.

*much faster paced game. Instead of running around to find your power-up (in ctf) or health or armor, you simply go and fight/capture flag.

*more exciting game play. There are more 'holy sh1ts' in ictf than in regular ctf I can guarantee that. And it can be very thrilling to go for the cap when someone is chasing you from behind knowing that if they catch up to you it's one shot in the back to ruin your run.

*although you are correct that insta takes away "small strategies of fighting" like resources management, it does highlight other strategies that are minimized when playing with all weapons. For example, strafing is HUGE in ictf. So is aim (obviously), dodging (making it hard for the enemy to rail you), sneakiness (because one shot kills you have to be creative about flag returns), and all around map knowledge. These, and a few others, are some of the skills that insta requires a high level of."

i like ictf, it's obviously rail only but it's still skilled, simple, and makes sense.

Anyone from Railgods dominated everyone else in quake3.. The1 was mentioned.. I still remember the red haired female model the1 used..mynx? DrizzT..Chaos.

I point to a time where quake was hot in insta, 2000-2002.

The next best clan would only have 1, maybe 2 people as good as their 3rd, and not even usually. They were truly in a league of their own..

Someone mentioned a bunch of ctfers you would see in pickups and such back in 2003.. Many were good but not comparable to trained insta elites.

What's this got on quake live? Idk, but strenx seems to be good from what I see. Only way to know is place these people in insta settings.
