That would be easy to test by changing keys to mouse or vice versa.


Either way, jump a microsecond first for the biggest effect, not at the same time.

i have jump on space and fire on mouse1. same for years. problem started after g100s. it really ruins the experience.

If i remember correctly the g100s has really low input latency so if you had a mouse with high latency before it might be a problem getting used too.

if i am looking down already before i try to rocket jump, it still fails 7/8 times, at least.

Had the same problem when I replaced my right mouse button switch with a heavier switch(only one I had). Used to miss a lot just as high as you. But after a day or three I was rewired. Replaced the mouse with a new one, and had to rewire myself back.

Just be patient, the timing will come.

Use mouse 2 for jump. I do.

When i played with a g100s last year that exact problem happened constantly. Im not sure if it was how i was rocket jumping, but the height was never right and it felt floaty. Its definitely the mouse.

If you HAVE to use a script, and I really do advise against it as it's far less flexible or instinctive, then:

alias rocketJ "wait;+moveup;wait;wait;+attack;wait;wait;-attack;-moveup;"

You need the waits to make it ping independent.
The initial wait stops it screwing up following other commands.

I found that using waits in the *.cfg makes the retarded everything-gets-unbound bug more frequent.

+moveup; +attck works.

I can only assume you must have messed up your cfg then at some point, i have a ton of vstrs, aliases, and that rarely used rj script and i've never had any problems.

Tips would have to be use c++ highlighting and make sure all quotes are closed, and any other formatting is correct.

Unaliasall will empty the aliases but not delete them and they are impossible to realias then (something like that IIRC). So yeah, it's definitely screwed!

That is almost certainly your problem then, you really shouldn't do that.

let your autoexec.cfg & cfgs your autoexec calls then override anything that is in them.

No, it's the basic way of dealing with constantly overwrote files when execing various *.cfgs from time to time.


I also didn't have any for more than 5 years - until the Steam-release that is.

I have a shit ton of aliases and scripts, many using a wait command (including the previsouly mentioned RJ script), I use unbindall at start of the cfg and I used to lock repconfig and qzconfig... I never had any issue even on steam!

I've unlocked the cfg files since then since I son't see the point anymore and may want to register the new vars somewhere for info, but I still had no issue before doing so...

Looking at your cfg on this site I see nothing wrong but the cvar_restart. Lorfa's way of listing only changed cvars is bullshit. Sure it makes smaller files but not more readable cfgs. Just list everything important and sort them together by relevance. Makes further changes much easier.

Given how unaliasall works (or even doesn't work), maybe cvar_restart fucks up the vstrs! It would explain the unbound issue since all of your weapon binds are vstrs.

The one on the site is a bit outdated though. I already added a few more cvars (also modified some) and I'm not using cvar_restart (and never used it to be honest, just one autoexec-file).

It would be indeed convenient if that would be the reason of the bug but it occured with other *.cfgs too, where there weren't any vstrs present, just pure binds.

cvar_restart is some kind of juju magic, it doesn't just exec default.cfg, it also doesn't actually wipe your config fully either, only the account settings -> reset saved settings option can do that.

I would definitely keep that out of a cfg.

you don't have to aim the rjump right under your feet. also this doens't mean you can't use the regular jump and shoot combo.

for ztn example:
1) you will use rjump script aiming away from you but so that it still hits you and pushes you up.
2) you don't use rjump but jump towards red and shoot a rocket underneath you while in air. you don't need rjump script for this.

if you get used to it you can do any jump comfortably with a script by adjusting the place where you aim with it.

I have the same problem and I think it's because my G100s skips when i do sudden moves.
The only way to "fix" this was to focus more on how I do the rocket jump = moving the mouse a bit slower.
Other tip would be to greatly increase the sensitivity.

Jump for me is pretty much required to stay on space because of all the muscle memory I have from random PC games. However in quake I have jump bound on mouse2 and space-bar. With attack set to the mouse1 the binds you need to rocket/plasma jump are controlled by the same hand. I did this initially to learn how to plasma climb, but it refined my rocket jumps as well.

It isn't the most efficient use of key-bind-real-estate but it works VERY well for me. Results May Vary :)

it seems like this may be the best option. i started ql last night and tried some ca, got into game and mouse1 wasn't working, so i bound it. now i remember that i ended up binding +attack to ctrl lol. i'll try getting used to jump on mouse2.

binding jump to mouse2 seems much more consistent. it will take a little time to get used to, but i think this is going to be the better configuration for a game with rocket jumping.

mouse1 - attack and mouse2 - jump is the holy grale of quake of fps games :P
