Quite old, I even linked the entire series in a past thread (cba to go find it mind you). It's a great event... check out the single segment perfect dark run; it's fucking awesome. Can't wait 'till SGDQ in the summer, wanting to go to it too just to spectate and wanting to find people who'll come along with me, but most of my friends aren't "gamers" ):
i feel raped by the dead-eyed stare of stephen hawking's son in the super meat boy shirt. why is it that nerds and the handicapped have the same taste in clothing? i have checked /r/cringe for years and this is the first time i have ever seen anything so brutally awkward. there's the drowning where a person is sucked under the tide and dies, there's the drowning where somebody hits their head and is unconscious underwater, there are rescues where the drowning person is saved, and then there's the guy who manages to survive for an inappropriate amount of time, the guy who won't stop struggling. it's the amount of time it would have taken you to help him. that's the sense of awkwardness i get from this video, like everybody in this audience, the commentator, and the player have all been stuck in one awkward moment of social drowning for years, and this video is the hint of lips breaking the surface of the surging tide to draw in a single gasping breath of spray and air.
You know, when I was a child (and even a teenager), I used to make fun of those people who were obviously poorly dressed (probably a result of them being poor in the first place) and the awkward Dungeons & Dragons crowd.
Today, I feel bad about what I did back then. I feel bad because what I did was bad. But I also feel bad because I simply just gave in to social pressure. And you know what? Now, I admire these weirdos. Yes, I admire them. They stood still in front of the social tide. They decided to remain who they were. They decided to not give a fuck about how their peers looked at them.
just because you feel bad about something doesn't mean that something is bad. thanks for opening up to me, though. you're the stepdad i wish i'd had, flashsoul.
All games are a waste of time. What they do is the same we do / watch: perfecting it for the sake of doing so, have fun while enjoying the common activity, some competition and self challenge.
What I like about speedruns is admiring the depth games that I loved have, that it is explained live and with perfect execution. As a show in general I enjoy watching games I haven't played but have interest in doing so because this serves as the condensed version of a youtube lets play video.
Should check out some of the previous years as well. Imo, Yoshifan's fzero speedrun is more impressive than cgn as he makes less mistakes; even though cgn is MUCH better.
