Can lag cause negative acceleration? I think in most games the answer should be no. But what about quake live.

this smartass above answers and CASE CLOSED like a moron. im sorry but i cant resist to complain about this kind of idiotic behavior in wich ppl think all exists is their "castle" and see nothing more . ppl should grow up and shut ut if not willing to really dive into what they re prompted to answer. the thing is... i get high pings and since my connection wont do much better i have to deal with it,ping may actually change the whole way u fell ur sensitivity in game . when it was browser based that was evident since the game with high ping would loose all smoothness and have lots of jitter wich will interfere in the way u perceive ur mouse moving , and even if the server receives all u send in terms of movement , at your end...you wont. cause game latency will afect the way ur quake processes the frames or something. try ping 20 and move around...and try ping 80 and do the same...its quite a diferent feel and only premature case closed kids wont perceive it . im no expert in internet protocols so if what i say isnt acurate in terms of technic its acurate in terms of experience . with the standalone version that latency in the way u perceive the game is mostly gonne for what i gladly see, still if you use cl_autotimenudge 1 , youll feel the same sensitivity draggin even with the standalone version

Yes. I do. Although only with gamer mice (WMO and G400), which is odd, and only on my laptop.

The high ping is probably caused by hardware malfunction if you're getting negative acceleration.

Can confirm this is not true. At home where I have stable internet my mouse is a lot more stable too. In the dormitory where I have all sorts of spikes it happens way more often. (I also get fps lag when it happens).

That is possible, yes. That could also mean that your lag spikes are caused by something eating up CPU in your PC too.

And as I said it only happens with WMO and G400, the only gaming mice I had. The only difference I can think of between those and regular browser mouse I use is that I run the gaming mice on 1000hz, while the casual mouse uses 125hz. This is why I thought for sometime that the negative accel is USB related (but tried all 3 ports, no difference).

if its an old pc, those early usb controllers could freak out running on 1000hz. at least those are the stories ive heard years back.

Try 500Hz, that might fix it. On my PC, if I go above that, the whole system becomes unstable if I move my mouse too fast.

Agreed. If your usb controller isn't very great It will have a hard time polling at 1000hz. Additionally usb polling eats up cpu which could lead to fps drops and therefore negative acceleration.

Or your cpu could be completely pegged which is making the usb poll a lot less. This could include processing all kinds of random dorm internet packets from everyone's botnet computer.

It would be more logical that you have unstable fps -> seems to cause lag and negative accel.... but it's just unstable fps.
