He's implying there is more than just the conventional form of beauty from a shallow point of view, when taking personality and intelligence into account. Additionally, beauty can not be truly objective as different people find different things appealing , and at the same time personal beauty is supported by effort, state of mind and confidence - even super hot and famous blondes such as Charlize Theron (or Marylin Monroe decades earlier) have their days off.

Life is unfair, but I dont think you're on the right track on the reasoning why.

The "inner beauty argument" can be discarded as invalid as soon as you find a person who is neither visually attractive, nor intelligent nor beautiful in any other way, shape or form. These persons exist, life is very unfair indeed.

Yet it is quite probable that a another person exists who would think of the aforementioned person as attractive or beautiful.
Therefore I would conclude that the "Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder" concept is the best argument for a "there are no ugly women" theory.
