cluex.org has been a good site last 2 years, for cups,
downloads, forums, whatever...

I am one of the donators, and ive seen alot of logs, and ive gladly sent the winners of the cup`s so far the money they won.

Either you ran out of youtube videos to watch and thought it would

I'm wondering why announcing a possibly biggest event on UT2004 since years meets with that wrong emotions from your person? Is that caused only because of not being a real UT2004 follower/player?

A part of the announcement is dedicated for the information that some extra funds might be needed to make the event happen, but that does not mean by posting the information here, I am demanding them. The information has been posted not to let Unreal environment die too quickly, as - suprisingly - the tournaments I have been hosted for nearly recent 2 years met with the highest interest of all UT2004 initiatives. Since I've been putting a lot of effort and time, I was hoping to see some understanding from the communities and organise a support for the most important event of mine for the game.

I haven't also followed the recent ESReality topics, so I have have really no clue if anyone was asking for similar support. If you feel uncomfortable with an announcement in that way, feel free to censor that message.

i would hate to assume that you are begging for money that you will throw away for your own benefit and not give back to the community. however, it is a concern, and as a representative for this site i am expressing that concern. there is no organization involved, and you are asking for the trust of users who, and this is a grand assumption on my part, have no idea who you are or what your history is with your particular community.

my suggestion for your post would be to format it so that it advertises your desire to provide a great event for a game you love, mention that you are seeking donations, but request that users visit your web site to find the personal information for committing those transactions.

my other concern is that i do not want a precedent to be set that asking for users' money is acceptable on esr. i hope you can understand this. if not, perhaps asking yourself how you would feel if users began asking for money for their own personal projects on your site, and if it would be something you'd like to invite into your community.

All OP mentioned was an obscure vision of a tournament possibly happening IF people send enough money. To a private paypal account. Oh, and a progress bar, right.

Community donations should be taken as a bonus, not as something you need to make a tournament happen. Wouldve looked quite differently if the cluex guy had posted relevant info with a list of things that have been already done and said There, lets do ourselves a nice UT event and if you care, you can donate so we have some prize money.

i know that a successful and productive individual such as yourself is sensitive to the importance of the context, trends, causes, and timeliness of ideas, and that you must surely understand the necessity to sometimes accept and dismiss ideas due to the variability of these factors.

I'm going to say I skimmed through the original, unedited post and to me it also looked like money begging more than a tournament announcement.

After Adroits the community and admins should be more careful on who is asking, receiving and administrating donations, donations that aren't given precisely to the person asking but to a cause that benefits everyone. For example I'd say among the quake community there's very few entirely trust worthy people for that purpose.

Cluex.org has indeed hosted a lot of online cups in the last few years for UT2004 and many of it's gamemods, including some events where donated prizemoney was payed out properly (iirc).

A list of successful ran events would be helpful for the ESR visitor, since there was and is still scam in the eSports community, ever since there was 'professional competitive videogaming'. The past cups are somehow a little bit hidden on the page, because they are archived asap. Therefore a proper list would be helpful for us here, as well as in the process of finding other sponsors and investors from non-UT2004 related communities and industries,it would give you a certain proof in terms of seriousness and reliability.

To put it in other words. Currently Cluex.org is the biggest organisation for UT2004, since others either have given up hope on that game, or do not concentrate as much as they do. You can maybe think about it as ESR+Zotac for Quake or TeamLiquid.net for StarCraft - just a little bit smaller in terms of size but equally important to the players of UT2004.

If they would scam users, then the competitive UT2004 community would be so immensely disappointed, it would be disastrous.
