what does novice to intermediate mean? the two "qualifiers" would destroy most novices.

im not sure i should play in this if its meant for newer players but the map pool looks so good.

The Elo cap that was established in previous cups was 1650. I'd consider novice about 1100 to 1350, and intermediate 1350 - 1650 (just made that up). There are however ladders in the form of colors - gold, silver, bronze, etc - on qlranks.com that may be worth looking at.

thing is elo isnt exactly stable. i could prolly get to below 1650 just by playing some better players and losing a lot (which i have in fact been doing lately).

Or are you referring that it's the opposite way, that 1650 is well beyond "intermediate"?

you're at 1104 actually. And yea you prob won't take much of anything at all out of playing 1700+

Work your way up through the rankings, play people 1100-1400 mainly and when you think you've got comfortable enough with the game / improved enuff try some 1400+ people.

qlranks seems to actually be a pretty useful tool in this regard.

Yeah I was playing lower ranked players for awhile at the beginning but I found three things that were wrong with playing them.

1. I would usually easily beat them which kinda made me feel like I was tier slumming which I definately dont like to do.

2. In my mind I find the mistakes I make when I play higher ranked elo players are so much more obvious right away. Which makes my learning curve that much faster even.

3. This does not apply to all players in lower tiers but I have found that some are really just dicks about duel and when they find someone they can beat they just kinda follow them around trying to just play the same person over and over to inflate their ELO. They also tend to only want to play one map which I think is retarded and a bit annoying since I would rather learn to play on all the popular tourney maps not just a select one or maybe two maps.

What I would like to do is actually get some lessons and man I really need to work on timing items. In CTF I am used to running a routine which in turn would time my items for me. I still haven't figured out how to actually time items properly in duel. I have read ddk's tutorial and a few others on timing items but it takes awhile to get it stuck in da old noggin.

On a side note I feel pretty good about having a 0% TS on QLranks though.
