I don't fear shitmania. At the end of the day, shitmania helps the overall competitive FPS scene, which will sometime turn to something good for Quake Live or the next generation fast paced FPS game (which could be reborn, quake 5 or something completely new).
Jamalz the Wise was refering to the whole sm haters crew, not you personally. Who cares about this game, there are enough people left in quake. Anyway they can't throw money forever, in a few months they'll realise how stupid this game is and no one will ever remember it in a year like Brink.
Brink had potential, they've ruined it with crap-requirements to run the game smoothly, very onesided maps and some smaller bugs. The movement-system, objectives and gfx-style were awesome...
thats hardly an excuse... They had years and years of previous competetive games and their features to look at and analyze, they could have take notice of what was consideres as good of any of these games and made a game that would have been FAR more attractive then the weird shit they are trying to pull off now by throwing money at it.
I got banned in chat for for pointing this out during IPL. shit's funny, and will be funnier if SM ends up failing. if it succeeds though...I dunno man...
Seriously guys, stop hating on SM based on that it's not Quake, ofc it's not, it's not even comparable to Quake, it's not like Shootmania prevents Quake from being held at major events.
And honestly, I get raged everytime someone even tries to compare 2 games like that, it's like comparing SC2 to checkers or wtf, don't do it.

Nobody can stay forever, and a change of pace is always nice when you're getting tired of the same stuff year after year. If anything, this makes those players see how good Quake really is.
You don't pick up a 5€ you find on the street?
As far as I can tell there is hardly any competition for the top Quakers in Shootmania.
I don't mind Shootmania being around, and I don't understand all this hate for it. You might as well constantly posting about CoD or BF, but for some reason, Shootmania stays in the publicity
If Shootmania was called Reborn and if it was released by 2GD instead of Nadeo everyone would be spraying cum all over it. Wasn't Reborn going to be a shooter different from Quake, but definately no realism shooter, and something about back to basics? Or did I just describe Shootmania..
stermy is a really straight guy though... But he's also very realistic.
Stermy can see (just like the other 'pros of ql') that in order to get an even remotely normal salary out of gaming you can't stick to quake.
So actually he's not lying. If he would stay in QL he couldn't continue to compete for $ reasons.
Let's just face the facts... in QL nowadays there is like $25.000-$35.000 a year distributed over 4 players, if you play all tournaments. So say that if you're top4 in general you'll make around $7000-$9000. You can't live from that.
And that 'he loves publicity' is also mainly because his sponsors like publicity.... which they pay him for.
You should trust whatver gaming personalities say in interviews.
Always.
Also, rapha uses Steelseries mouse, cypher think Abysuss tracks great and doesn't have any issues and people actually enjoy shootmania and aren't in it for the money.
SM is supposed to be a new competitive fps gaming title, so you actually can compare it to the 10yo baseq3 called QL. So why not discuss on the evolution of fps games.
And the bashing comes from Cypher and Rapha trying to make the game look better than it is, so they dont look like greedy bastards. Nobody would give a fuck about SM anymore, if these icons were honest and said "Game is simple and shitty and Im there just for the money".
How do you know that they don't truly enjoy the game as it is? From what I've heard from many people on this forum they think every Quake player secretly thinks the game is shit. It may not be as advanced as Quake but as ins said it's a different game and it shouldn't be compared to Quake.
SM is something new, fresh and different. If thats what youre looking for and need a break from QL, no doubt you can have fun and enjoy the game for a short period of time.
But SM takes itself seriously. And if a game tries to be worthy of the "competitive fps" title, there should be a sign of evolution. Instead, its so simple .. I mean Wolf3d looks like the most complex fps compared to SM. If we are ever to get a good game to race Quake, It should be stated clear -and especially by icons such as above mentioned Rapha & Cypher- that the upcoming games trying to be the next big thing should come up with something more than SM does.
So I watched some IPL last weekend, and If you compare SM viewer numbers to the other competitions, it's a joke. Just like QL@IEM. So even if QL>SM in viewers now, it's still AEONS away from games like LoL, DOTA or SC.
QL (just like SM) needs more players, more players and more players. And as long as FPS developers think you can get players to play a game just by adding/balancing game mechanics, we will remain to be a small and elitist community.
A graph of previous SM events spectators vs IPL numbers would be a better way to track SM evolution. IMO IPL was a spectator success if you take into account previous SM events. Quake numbers are stagnated or even shrinking, if SM number are increasing well thats a good sign for the game. Its sad the game mechanics are so simple tho.
apparently the stream that was on the ign frontpage for 3 days was separate from twitch. and i doubt it capped at 2500 with the 100 million impressions that ign gets per day¹
even with the lack of quality from the game, you people should be happy that a big company like ubisoft is throwing their weight around to astroturf another fast paced fps.
i did play shootmania some weeks ago and it's not for me, but getting the mainstream interested in fast paced fps' is good for you all in the long run.

shitmania/nexiuz are testing the waters, trying to grab hold of the huge casual shitties that play LoL and mw2 etc and force them into the arena shooter genre.
They are the games we need to succeed in order to have Quake 5 become an amazing game.
We need them to find some way of bridging the gap. Getting casuals is fuck hard without having ultra realistic graphics and easy gameplay.
So casuals playing instagib ? Okay - then they slowly learn the game and hit the skill cap and want another challenge - move on to other modes that nadeo creates within shootmania - suddenly they are ready for some actual skill based games and duel and such, then we can cultivate the crop when a real game hits and they move over to quake 5 or whatever.
I love watching high skilled quake, it makes me jizz. And that is just from the 25ish top skilled players. I mean do you know how lucky we were to find these players?
Rapha / CZM/ Cooller/ ZeRo4/ Cypher/CZM/toxjq/strenx etc?
Fucking taking quake to a whole nother level and that is only from a tiny fucking tiny pool of players. Probably 1 million and under since Quake 3 to Quakelive
Imagine if we had 100 million players of Quake. IMAGINE THAT SHIT. The skill we'd be seeing would be phenomenal. Maybe there is a guy that can time 10 items straight, some odd looking chinese kid or old looking indian with some crazy memory skills.
Or some asshole that can literally rail 80% every game because his mother took some crack and he has autism but also has insane twitch reflexes or whatever
the games would be so fucking awesome. OMG I WANT TO SEE IT.
Or some asshole that can literally rail 80% every game because his mother took some crack and he has autism but also has insane twitch reflexes or whatever
40 ugly frenches on streme is FAIR numbers for such "game"))))) If u dont understand anything in QL Stream it is still entertaining 2 watch while shootmania is boring after 2-3 absoluly SAME rounds(( TOO simplfied
The graph is wrong. IPL broadcasted to two streams, one to twitch, one to their own website that offered free HD (720p). They mostly link around their ign.com url's, and since there was free HD, the majority of the viewers were on their site, not twitch.
I'm not defending SM, but that graph is 100% wrong.
I heard some numbers being tossed around at the event by IPL staff, but since I don't know 100% I won't comment. Long story short, twitch had very small numbers compared to the IPL stream numbers.
after politely pointing out to ipl casters that strenk isnt quake legend how they dub him,
"GoldenboyFTW
@supesdf I'm sure the owner of @CyberSportsNet would not like to see one of their own insulting somebody who has worked w/ them in the past."
yeah, nice threat u mexican faggot. good thing whole QL staff got fired by CSN beforehand so this dirty sanchez eating fatass got served.
i am surprised...no i am not. i would be really interested in tribes ascend and cs:go viewing numbers, in order to get a scale to put ql into relation to . anyone got a source?
