put DaHanG into that top3...I remember playing on q2 servers and keeping tabs on the news from Quad Dmg. Many of us who actively played q2 with DaHanG (I played briefly on his 4v4 q2tdm squad) could not believe how well he was doing and felt like "one of us" is somehow hanging with and actually putting a lot of pressure on the Tox/Fox machine.
dansen: except that Tox won.

Don't get me wrong. Personally I think 1.4 is the perfect Quake and it doesn't need to be touched. Reason I say that is it takes the best from Q3 and QW - overpowered weapons like QW, but they're situational like in Q3.
I believe that on paper q4 is the best of both worlds, yes. The only problem being that 1.4 is nearly retarded fast for duel and that the rockets have the same kind of david copperfield pop than in ql ( instapopped to the ceiling for seemingly no reason ).
But I'd rather play that shit than ql anyway.
edit: if that's the interview I'm thinking about it's something like one or two years old, and he complains that you can't lock weapons away from your opponent in ql. That's true but that's unfortunately not coming back, just like actually having to care about ammunition.
Its an earlier interview than that (text form) when he was just starting to play QL after switching from Q4. From what I remember he explains how QL is more about timing and aim, as you dont have the movement advantages over weaker opponents and that you can't really dodge with the unlagged netcode and slower strafing speed. Also I remember he said that he has to concentrate much more to beat weaker players because of that.
edit: I think it was only too fast because the maps needed to be upscaled as they were made for the slower movement pre-1.4
Nx is down to play another clan with this format. We are also down to play a series of 4v4 TDM in QW / CPMA / QLIVE vs any other group of people who would want to try that. I don't think this will ever happen in my lifetime though. Some group of 4 out there prove me wrong please... and be from North America =)
How about offline competition where you can improve your result gradually based on points:
Format
----------
defrag time on a long, simple map
3 FFA matches on different maps with the same competitors 7 min each
15 min duel vs sarge nightmare on dm17
Scoring system
---------------------
figure out high range for defrag map and apply ratio to get a score
+
frags accumulated in FFA divided by some ratio
+
frags accumulated in duel
Conciderations
---------------------
Every event must be plain eliminate shortcuts (no quad, tricks, no special advantages)
Every event must be stable to eliminate luck - ffa on different maps for a recoverable amount of time
Every event must have the same weight
--gather enough data to gain meaningful ratio
--find ratio to apply to each event
