The number of "pro" duel players look pretty bad tbh. Almost no Europeans at all. It's Cypher vs the Amercians atm:

Ye, qcon 2011 had Cooller, ZeRo4, Rapha, Cypher, Avek, Spartie, Tox, Strenx, DaHanG, noctis, czm, ...

So that's 7 players for 4 groups(A,B,C,D). I gonna assume that sparks gets that 8'th seed for that 8th spot. If that is the case this tournament looks pretty locked down by these 8. Ideally for more interesting games i'll be looking for early upsets by the other players and also by Chance Lacina (chance) if he plays well or upsets the other strong seed in his bracket I think that'll be his shot for top 3. Most of these players have played lots of practice games with each other and games are all close so IMO the tournament really comes down to momentum and what seed they can secure in the groups.

There is also 15 out of 16 people selected meaning there's 1 more left, I guess it really comes down to who shows up and who is missing. But my hopes for the 16th person would be:

Jared Keahey (pfb): It doesn't say on qlranks but im pretty sure he's given zero4 some good games in the past.

Nick Kezhaya (zar): Plays smart and has beaten rapha before.

Roy Vela (klaovhwN): Has wickid aim and is probably the best wildcard for groups.

Also I hope jok0 does well, he's put a lot of time in effort into his game, more so than some* of the pro invite players. GL sir :)

In terms of possible candidates filling that 16th spot w0nk0, br1ck are both solid players so that wouldn't surprise me if they got in. In terms of excitement/upsets pfb, zar, klaovhwN are just my personal picks.

Cypher/Rapha finals... as per the norm. Not that that's bad persay, but I wish QuakeCon wasn't so damn dumb when it comes to tournament announcements and payouts.

OK I do this too often lol, answering my own questions yeah bad habit in regards to posting. So I finally caved into entering my birth-date to get into the site, before I could at least get the player list without entering it lol. On the bright side I like how the quakecon website is organized this year props to that.

Where are all the Europeans. 2 months ago at GD invitational everybody was playing. By now they have suddenly quited?

Because tournaments were announced less than 3 weeks before the event. It's almost impossible to get financing and make all preparations (get things sorted irl, book flights, etc.) in such short notice.

Also participants and groups were announced exactly 2:30 hours before it starts (same day). That's how badly it's organized.

And SM hurt quake lots. Maybe without it there would be like 8 euros even with id failing (right now it's 3 I think, including memento mori)
