Today we are proud to announce that two of the best-known names in eSports are joining TwitchTV - we are happy to welcome Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham and James "2GD" Harding to the TwitchTV family! These guys are true ambassadors for the industry we so passionately support, and have each traveled far and wide to help realize the dream of Pro-Gaming. That's why we now welcome them to help guide us into the glorious eSports future! djWHEAT will now act as our eSports Manager, while 2GD will head up TwitchTV's presence in Europe.
Without further ado, let's hear it from the men themselves:
What does this mean for Quake in the long run? Nothing is finalized at this point, however I can assure you that with the combined powers of djWHEAT, 2GD, and FishStix, anything is possible. We fully plan on doing something with Quake in the near future.

doesnt take long to see that this wheat guy has an inteligence barely that of an average american. about the games he cast, he knows as much as a two week noob would. its true he brings lots of excitement to the games for people who believe shouting obvious stuff really loud=excitement. he is persistent tho. maybe it would be wiser to put his position to 2gd and make him some kind of audience animator for live shows, get him a mascot costume like in the nba. i hope youre reading this djwheat, because youre a fucking idiot : D
hey thanks man, you still suck as a caster tho. your insight in to the game is noobishly basic like that of wheat... go watch some lvlup casting and see what quake is about.
His game knowledge is a little low but he has charisma, energy, very good sense of humour, very professional, adapts well to co-hosts, a huge passion for starcraft, witty, quick, deadpan, a hunger to learn more and be better at the game.. you name it, he's a damn good caster who's worked hard to earn that title in an extremely competitive casting stage (there are dozens of SC2 casters, and hundreds of wannabe's)
I am very picky about casters - its hard to fault the guy really. He's casting in MLG this weekend along with Day9, Tasteless and Artosis - to 100,000 viewers. Not bad really.
DjWheat: "You're killing e-sports slasher"
Slasher: "No, you're killing esports sirscoots"
Scoots: "Nu uh, wheat is killing esports"
Wheat: "Let's hold each others cocks while we discuss the same three subjects we do every week, MLG, SC2, and the prophetical killing of esports."
The audience, 100% TL regulars(lmao) gobble that shit up like cake.
who is "we"? who is leading twichtv? esport manager, is this a fulltime job or some hours? whos paying? djWHEAT said many times he doesnt like quake anymore. what is the plan with twichy, more sc2?
TwitchTV is the worlds largest video game broadcasting and chat community.
since when?
twitch.tv is part of justin.tv, isnt it? and when did wheat ever say that he does not like quake anymore? i think he lost faith in quake as an esport game but i never heard him say something like that
Is it not that he has fallen out with the asshole Quake community for some reason or another? I'm pretty sure I asked the same question somewhat recently after a similar comment being made, but I never really got an answer.
UK and USA, two major English-speaking countries. And these two videos show how enormously they differ in terms of mentality, sense of humour etc. It's always the easiest explanation, why I like Brits more :) I know, harmful generalisation, don't take it too serious! Still, somehow true :]
Agreed. I live in Florida and only really listen to the BBC; love that sardonic British humour too, refreshing, sarcastic and free of self-righteousness.
Agree.100%. No offense to Wheat, I'm sure he's an awesome person and appears to have a great head on his shoulders. However, I can't stand him as a caster.
In the past I muted casters, or deliberately ignored loading the separate casts when I specced via gtv, because the casters irked the piss out of me.
Warwitch I liked...after him, no other caster actually held my attention until Tosspot, later 2GD. Nothing to do with their skill as gamers/looks/etc...rather, their humor and voice.
At least 2GD hasn't fully abandoned this community the way Wheat and Carmac have...for their own personal gains. I honestly don't fault them for it really, but it's a bit disheartening.
I'm sorry, I just can't quite understand what the point is.
Someone please explain wtf is the difference between this and the 3 other similar services I can think of right now.
As the new eSports manager for TwitchTV, Mr. Graham will be responsible for managing relationships and business development with the worlds leading eSports personalities, leagues, tournaments and other organizations.
and
In his new role, James will be leading up TwitchTVs new European branch based in Stockholm, Sweden. Hardings invaluable experience in product design, team management, marketing, event organization and unique influential celebrity profile is a welcomed addition to the TwitchTV family.
So, for SC2, it means more coordination, and more publicity.
I'm pretty sure your definition of celebrity is corrupt. He is a celebrity in the e-sports scene because the vast majority of people who have ANYTHING to do with e-sports will know who he is. Not every celebrity in the world will appear in 'Heat' Magazine or 'Hello' magazine.
Wow these intros really highlight the differences in their personalities.
2GD: Unscripted but funny, slightly swaggering (Dudley Moore?) delivery in his own words but still direct with a touch of self-deprecation. Makes other gamers comfortable because, well he was a serious gamer.
Wheat: Goes right into his comfort zone using his casting voice; still thinks that saying "bitches" somehow breaks the ice, pulls out the first cliche "cat out of the bag" and then continues speaking in the style of a generic college radio dj, imho.
So I guess 2GD, 100% real...Wheat, all filler. Off mic and behind the scenes, however, both guys probably know how to get things done.
well its his lo3 trademark opening, whats the problem? dont think he will open a big event broadcast like that. actually thats kind of the best thing about wheat he can be a regular fun having gamer and one of the most professional casters this industry has at the same time.
Twitchtv is a big pile of crap for europeans. Right know I can't watch the esl stream for whatever reasons. Own3d.tv >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> justin crap.
i have more problems with own3d than i have with twitchtv :(
used to be different though, but lately own3d hq streams were lagging a lot while i havent had problems with any twitch 720p stream for a while
In the last 2 months we've expanded our infrastructure into Amsterdam and Europe. We soon plan to expand even further to another European datacenter, as well as double the capacity of Amsterdam. We move quick on this stuff...
"Quick"? You've done some routing magic for DreamHack Summer so everything was smooth for 3 days. Come Tuesday and justin.tv/twitch.tv is again unwatchable for months to come. You're only giving your own service bad name by coming to Europe unprepared.
GL with your new DCs of course, hope you get things working soon. Competition on the market is always a good thing. (and if you win that market fight with service quality and not just marketing, it's a win for all of us)
(to Nukm: my suspicion is that own3d is plagued by newb casters who can't set stream parameters properly, but they'd do the same thing with justin; it's the same with people saying YouTube breaks their frag movies, yet there are millions videos on YT including frag movies without grey beginning :) - PEBKAC :))
(PS. I can watch own3d with MPlayer, twitch is retarded with all those hash keys and stuff to make us use their CPU-hungry web player, which also makes it impossible to tunnel it)
there are at least 10 better quake casters than wheat.
The only thing he gets right is screaming at the right times, because he has 0 knowledge about the game and he actually likes to throw shit at quake and its community every time he has a chance to do so.
This is great news for the quake community and in general for the esports community, congrats to both djWHEAT and Jay! The industry is definitely growing at a rapid rate thanks to sc2 and the moba games, individuals like these are helping to catalyse progress. I can't wait to see where esports is headed after all these years of stagnancy, it's reassuring that some household names and trust-worthy figures who have proved themselves over many years are going to be at the head of this growth. gogo!
one company? i think own3d has been supporting for a shitload longer, looking at recent "quality" @ IEM NY i can't be as excited as paid ambassadors...
