gonna change this error, thx for noticing it.

Concerning the problem of loading, it may happen when you forgot to answer an item. Which browser do you use ? Heard it's fucked up with IE.. but works fine with FireFox

filled it but it was a bit vague considering the topic, its asking if we are motivated and how we behave towards others but it doesnt ask questions about why we are motivated.

hm, agree with you about some of the questions. The thing is that we dont invent questions running this type of stuff, had to adapt the original ones in order to keep their first meaning as well as to be coherent from a gaming's point of view.

I'd be interested in any theoretical or empirical papers or questionnaires you've taken as a foundation for this, as I'm studying psychology myself. PM would be appreciated.

Also, why didn't you inverse some of your questions for each scale? That's always a good idea imo.

if you are interested about research about video games, check the researches of Brad Bushman. He is the one who reported that violent video games increase violence..

Bushman's recent papers seem interesting, I might take a look.

So are you trying to transfer theories/models from sport psychology to the field of online gaming? And the best tool availabe was this questionnaire? :/

currently doing a PhD idd, but this wont be included in. As I've said, little is known about the links between online gaming and motivation to perform, and even less when it's about teamplaying. No, it doesn't at all force them to tell the truth. Actually, if anything, it makes it easier for them to lie and they are less inclined to _think_ about what they respond.

the idea is not to prevent from lying or not. The idea is to be sure that the measured concept, defined prior to the survey, holds from a players point of view. Better to have several questions than one from a researcher's POV, even if it thus may be a bit boring from a participant's POV..

Of course it is. And it's about making sure they spend some effort into their answers.

How do you know that "the measured concept holds" when you urge players to respond with the same reaction to 4-5 questions that are pretty much identical and not even reversed?

It's probably not your fault that the questionnaire you had to adapt sucks, but it sucks nonetheless.

Well you can't really prevent intentional lying in questionnaires. You can measure the extreme voters (all yes or all no) as well as the social desirability to keep that kind of bias out. But if someone is being an ass and purposely trolls your questionnaire you can't do much about that.

And of course more questions are better to measure a concept but then, they actually should be different.

...I sometimes help opponents who are beginners at the game.

...I sometimes give advice and assist beginners although they are opponents.

Yeah, I kinda meant anwering in a socially desirable way when I was talking about lying. His quesionnaire imo checks neither for extreme voting nor for social desirability.

Of course you can't prevent people from answering with random nonsense. But it's not trivial to manipulate items that check for social desirability if they are done decently.

we can check this statistically by calculating the internal correlations between the questions as a function of the participant (factorial analysis)

I'm familiar with the concept of factorial analysis and its drawbacks.

You will be able to see whether the person answered simliarly to similiar questions but you can't check at all whether your way of questioning them MADE them answer that way, can you? Having inversed questions for each scale is one well-established way to reduce this problem.

I adapted validated questionnaires and trusted the one who set them up previously, however you're right in what you say. Always tough to decide between staying close from what's been done and how we would personally do..

Some questions are not asked in a good way. For example:

"...when playing, I get angry quickly but get over it quickly."

What if you get a NO answer to this question?

It could be that the player never gets angry.
It could be that the player gets angry very frequently but only slowly.
It could be that the player gets angry really quickly but gets over it slowly.

and "...I wonder why sometimes I feel so nervous about playing" seems a bit vague too. Sometimes I'm nervous but I've never put any thought in this. So my answer is no.

you shouldn't be collecting the data + nickname and clan. that makes the data linked to personal information.
do you want to do some kind of scientific survey or just collect personal data on gamers?

the idea is to be able to identify double fill and delete the previous answers when this is the case. For example, it can happen that the survey crashes or does not work properly and the individual reloads it. Feel free to write a number if u dont want to write ur ingame name. However, as Ive said, I'm interested in global means and not in any case in identifying who said what.

I like these interesting questions about clans:
"We want to perform better than other clans", "We want to rank better than other clans", "We don't want to do worse than other clans", "We want to perform well against other clans". Same thing with the personal questions.
