samee. Btw, cant play any id games on the laptop. The gamma goes to dark randomly, so I have to change r_gamma to any other value for it to be bright again. Im sure if I installed WIN XP it would work like a charm.

Have you tried using xp compat? I had a similar issue with QL and Q3. Had to do with setting hardware gamma or something idk.

Yeah I tried. Actually this doesn't happen in QL. It happens in Q3 and QW. D3 worked OK too.

also had trouble with reading various memory usb devices that works without any problem in xp

well saying its an enhanced media center is a massive understatement. its the main ui that 90% of the users will stick with and although they say the classic desktop will stay accessible, its not clear in what way and if what you see in the video stays

Computer concept is slowly moving away from something like an "altar" in your house with designated place, with its own desk, with its own rituals to use it (like booting it up or shutting it down), and is becoming a mundane utilitarian device that you just take and do your stuff on it.

hopefully the reduction in fabrication process and improvements in batteries will make portables more viable (outside phones)

the first part is advancing quite fast (until the theoretical barrier of ~11nm), but battery improvements are pretty slow

the interface is just windows 8 with the tablet shell, if you install it on your desktop, your desktop will just be like windows 7 using windows and folders and normal apps to work

This is continuation of Zune HD concept. The Zune had great industrial design and minimalist UI that was unique.
Metro UI for WP7 and now W8 is even better IMO. Great typography and layout. They worked with some of the best type designers to develop the ClearType fonts, designed specifically for the screen. iOS & OSX are still using Helvetica as a system font, optimized for print and high ppi screens.

The new Immersive UI (W8) is aimed at tablets and other ARM based devices. I am sure that this can be disabled, one way or another.

There are great examples on deviantart, pixelfuckers and customize.org what can be done with the default UI. I'm just glad that they decided to go with more minimalist approach this time.
