It doesn't work like that.

1. Burn xfire
2. Install an IRC client (mIRC, Icechat, XChat or something). Join the quakenet IRC server and find some cool channels you like. xenoclan are portugese for example, they could help you out.
3. Play public until some people actually know and respect you
4. Play pickups. You are hopefully looking for a TDM Team and not CA or something. You didn't say what mode you are looking for. So you join #tdmpickup in IRC and add up for some matches.
5. Profit. When you are good enough to play for some team, you will know by then what teams to ask, or even better, they will ask you.
