Update Delayed
SITE NEWS | Feb 1, 2011 | sponge
The update originally planned for today has been delayed, as the studio has been closed due to ice and snow. We're currently planning on rolling out this patch tomorrow, February 2nd. For anyone with scheduled matches, we're planning on late afternoon id time. As we get closer to the time, we'll try and give a few hours warning.

Its little updates like this which I actually really appreciate. Better than being completely in the dark, although that is usually the case with ID.

This is actually the first time id is giving us a mildly good excuse for postponing things.
Step in the right direction for sure.

What sort of winter weather in Texas(!) is going to stop people from getting to work? Half an inch of snow?

Bunch of pussies.

They're about as unprepared for winter weather as you would be unprepared for 120f summers (which they get often)

Wikipedia says the average yearly high for Dallas, TX during summer is 95 degrees, which is the same high we had last summer over here. Was business as usual for everyone.

But nice exaggeration of "120f summers often", especially considering the record high ever for Dallas is 113 degrees.

lol
ask Quakecon attendees how accurate that is.. I haven't been since '08, but both 07 and 08 were in the 110-115 range.
I live just a few hours drive from there, and it gets almost as hot where I am.

edit: do you guys even have a "heat index" where you live? I assume you wouldn't even need one, if you're in europe.

well, I've been seeing from a LOT of places that simply don't get the difference between their cold weather and cold weather in a place like Dallas.

One of the Toronto folks explained as such:

"It must be pointed out what the ground temperature is where the 2" of snow/ice falls. Across the south, from Texas to Georgia, for example, the temperature of the ground below the 1 inch surface layer is well above freezing all winter. This is an enormous heat source which changes snow/ice into a semi-liquid zero friction surface which NO type of tires except studded can deal with. Add to this driver inexperience and so-called 'all-season' tires and you get a paralyzed city.

Here in Southern Ontario and across 'the north' the ground temperature in winter is well below freezing to a depth of nearly four feet so when we get 2" of snow it is dry and FAR less slippery than a Dallas 2-incher.

In summary 2" of snow in Dallas-Atlanta is a serious situation while the same amount here in Toronto is 'meh'"

I'm not trying to "win" anything, it's just that a lot of people in colder parts of the world are acting like they'd be better off in an identical situation, not realizing how far from identical this 2" of ICE is compared to the snow they're used to dealing with. That's all.

I trust official statistics more than Quakecon attendees :< Your thermometer is probably off due to either being in direct sunlight or having the area around it heat up to hotter than the air actually is.

Yeah, we have one, it gets to around 100-110F during summer. So tell you what, I'll trade a 120F heat index in summer for a -50F wind chill in winter :D (Frostbite to exposed skin inside 5 minutes of exposure)

comparing one summer at site 1. with the any kind of average temperature at site 2. just really hurts my engineering feelings.

I never claimed Estonia was on average as warm as Texas, I was saying that last summer was as warm as Texas generally gets, so claiming I don't know "how warm summers feel" is fallacious.

I hope I didn't hurt your engineering feelings by giving you comprehension advice.

no one plays premium content anyway != no one has access to them.

Unless you consider python only meant aerowalk and the odd hektik match here and there.

i get you, the poll = people have access to prem content
my last post = people play premium content. duel, tdm is unthinkable without prem content and from what i have seen on publics ca and ctf prem content gets used just fine. only real problem is freeze tag
