This is the pre-season cup that the Winners of the English Premiership and the Winners of the FA Cup play each other. Tis normally called the FA Charity Shield, seems they have renamed it, or xsreality got it wrong :)

The F.A. Community Shield

The first ever F.A. Community Shield will be contested at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday August 11th 2002.

Formerly known as the Charity Shield, the match retains its position as the traditional curtain-raiser to the domestic season between the League and F.A. Cup Champions, but the Shield itself will take on a new and improved form from 2002.

The first Charity Shield match was played in 1908 between Manchester United, reigning Football League Champions, and Queens Park Rangers, then Southern League Champions. This professional v amateur format was to be followed for many years and often featured scratch teams that were assembled on a one-off basis. In 1950, for example, an English World Cup Team beat a Canadian Touring Team. These largely informal games, often played at the end of the season, were held either at neutral grounds or at the home ground of one of the participating teams.

In 1974, Ted Croker, The F.A. Secretary, proposed that the Shield should be played at Wembley as a curtain raiser to the new season. The match would feature the reigning League Champions and the F.A. Cup holders and the Shield would be shared in the event of draw. Penalties are now used if the scores are tied at full-time.

Having beaten Manchester United 2-1 at Cardiff in 2001, Liverpool have now won the Shield a record 12 times and their Merseyside rivals Everton are the are the only side to win the Shield four times in a row in seasons in 1984, '85, '86 & '87.

i think football is popular all over the world because it's the most accessable sport... people in all countries can get or make a ball and practice their moves by themselves or make a goal out of a couple poles or barrels or something...

just because people like it, doesn't mean it's good... look at all the n'sync and backstreet boys fans :p

There should be some restrictions about how far in advance you could post a fixture. Three (maybe four) days is a good limit IMO.
