Well the company is going to be creating websites. We are using the web2py framework (which is awesome!) to allow fast development. The website skill here is really bad, and they charge a fortune, so we should be able to dominate. However! That is not our main money making plan.

Our first website is actually for ourselves, but I'm not at liberty to discuss what it actually does yet (But once it's live I'll post a journal or something) but, our competition is really small and inefficient (yet they seem to be making a lot of money), and this should make a killing in the next 1 to 2 years, depending on marketing.

Considering I worked in a similar field in London, it's actually not that different. Of course there are a lot of skilled people, but there is a ton of crap out there too. The problem this causes is that really good websites are very expensive (but don't really take that much time to build than average websites) and the really crappy websites are really really cheap. Only difference there are less skilled people here, and the crappy websites are expensive too.

I'm in Sales (business development manager) but I'm doing a web design/dev open uni course, I'm hoping to get a junior dev job when I'm qualified or atleast start my own online business.

Ah well I'll keep you in mind then, but we first need money coming in before we can hire anyone more. (6 - 12 months) Just remember it's a bit of a bitch to fly down here (although it's easier than Australia) and I think our visa laws are a bit harsh (I think you can only work 6 months, but it may be different if a company sponsors you). Otherwise Cape Town is awesome! I had a lot of friends from the UK down here and none of them wanted to leave!

Oh and salaries will be less than the UK, but living expenses are also a lot less. (Excluding unlimited 4mbit internet which is like £60 a month)

I was only joking about wanting a job, I'm gonna be studying for ~2 years anyway. Maybe I'll ask you again then :-)

With regards to the post further down, building up skills is never a waste, since at the end of the day even if you are using off the shelf products where websites are mostly done for you, you still need to be able to edit them. I am very uncomfortable to have to rely on anyone else, with regards to software, websites, hardware, servers etc.

Also, the web market is in fact still growing, and will be for some time. Also technology improves over time, and then everyone needs new websites (for example HTML5). Even simple redesigns isn't just as easy as replacing images, it requires someone the code changes too.

The only future in web dev is database driven sites and even then its only a matter of time until the market is saturated like the html website market where you can buy off the shelf solutions from sites like Monster Templates. There people like you will be nothing more than initial installers.

I can get a stunning looking website for 30 dollars, all I do is put my images in, change a few words and its good to go.
Who cares if its not a one off, even it its been used 100's of times, when you have billions of websites, exclusivity is not a concern.

Within 5 years time you'll be able to make your own ebay/Facebook/youtube with nothing more than off the shelf solutions for a few 100 dollars. Everything will be wizard based, shit you need to be qualified in now will not be needed then.

Just like what happened to bulletin board market with Invision.

You're better off learning something tech won't replace, at least for the forseeable future.

You need to be plugged in from day one to survive. You're aiming to have skills that would make you employable today in 3-5 years you'll be as useful as someone who knows basic html at facebook.

You may be right, but the whole thing is more of a hobby to me at the minute with open uni being a study guide and finishing post.

It's something i'd rather do than play computer games, if it comes in handy in the future great, if not, atleast it would of been interesting.

I think the refresh rate counts for more than the response time. Also, in this case, I would question the detriment of a response time when playing with low ping and high input devices.

For example, when you are playing quake, your crosshair is a little bit away from the enemy, at that point you make a quick movement and click, without actually waiting for the crosshair to be above the target. In modern day mice playing with 500hz or 1000hz, the response time is 1/2ms. The mouse movement and click will react without depending on the monitor at all. And with regards to tracking, the difference will be so slight as to be unnoticeable.
