At my grandfathers farm getting rid of new born kittens isn't anything special. I fully understand that does who live in a city and don't have any thing to do with the countryside aren't used to it, and it's shocking for them. We all think of cats/dogs as domestic animals mosty. At a farm cats/dogs aren't superior to any other farm animals. We're all ok with pigs/chickens/etc getting slaugthered (right? we eat meat after all), at a farm cats/dogs aren't any different. And since dogs are only to guard, cats to catch mice/rats there aren't really many needed at a farm. So if there's too many, obviously you get rid of those which are redundant.

About either killing them youself / taking them to the vet to put the to sleep, that's another thing. I agree that they should be taken to the vet. But that takes time and money.

Personally I find the video pretty stupid, mostly because they actually recorded it and put it on youtube, like it's some kind of an entertainment.

If you've got pets and you don't want them to born puppies or kittens, you castrate them. It doesn't do them any harm, it's perfectly humane and yet, people still seem reluctant to do it. It's absurd.
