I'm stunned. That final has to be the highest level quake has ever been played at and among the most astonishing displays of skill in esports history. I just... wow. The games were mindblowing. I was literally shaking with excitement during aerowalk.

Day three could not possibly have gone better. Rapha being eliminated made the entire thing unpredictable, we saw the ever unfortunate stermy battle hard to the loser's bracket finals where he was defeated by the bad mannered cooller. That gave everybody an intense desire for cypher to win it all. The interspersed ctf matches were all luckily A+.

Then the games... oh my fucking god. SPOILER WARNING. Lost World/dm13 from cooller was the best I've ever seen quake played. Cypher literally could not move without cooller's permission. He controlled the pickups plus rockets and lg - six items - FOR TEN STRAIGHT MINUTES, that's unreal.

Cypher bent cooller over on battleforged, he was right to concede so early instead of getting messily raped for the full duration.

t7... so sexy. Could have gone either way.

Aerowalk... no doubt, this is the best game of quake ever played. On the off chance you're still reading despite the spoiler warnings above I'm not gonna say how this went, but jesus christ, you need to see it. Cypher didn't miss a rail on this map until over three minutes in.

ZTN: Holy hell, so close, so well played.

The casting by Joe, who is the catface :3, and 2gd, who is >:), made things especially great.

I don't even care that the first two days were awful as usual, a climax like this absolves all wrongs and truly elevates the game.

In what way was Cooller bad mannered? Didnt watch it.

he called gg with like 3mins left after crushing stermy on a map, but I believe stermy made him ready before he wanted to? not sure. also the whole ragequit battleforged and likely russian shittalk after that map :D


i didnt play when cooller was a badass and said funny stuff. i'd love to see him shit talk more.

Cooller so deserved to win; and should have won, on both hub and ztn. Such a shame.

just because you wanted cooller to win doesn't mean he should have won. It's not like he lagged out. Cypher's win was hard fought and well deserved.

I mean that watching the games, Cooller was the player with more chances to win It is not an opinion but more of a fact that he had plenty of possibilites to win 3-1 and then also 3-2 and that Cypher pretty much managed to steal away a victory from an almost impossible situation.

what does that have to deserve anything

the initial spawns for almost every map were very kind to cooller.. he was outplayed.

That's Coollers playstyle. He has control and he's not risking the control of the map by attacking the enemy. He mostly waits for the frag to come which usually comes since the enemy can't keep evading Cooller with pretty much no-armor.

On Aero Cooller had a lot of possibilities to chase Cypher down when the score was 6-6. He didn't and the very few times he tried Cypher was very effective in keeping Cooller of his back by putting a direct rocket in Coollers face.

Switzerland should have won the Football World Cup, because they were the only team to destroy that fumbling bunch from Spain.

I was there at quakecon, watching the matches, I wont forget cooller's expression after the aerowalk match ended......one of utter shock and disbelief. Still cant believe cypher managed to survive 2+ mins with almost nothing to work with and finally managed to win that map. I was myself so sure, cooller takes this map.

Must have been awesome to be there,i envy you :D After Dm13 i was sure that nothing could
stop Cooller at this event ....he looked better then ever tbh.Fast,accurate and unstoppable so
thats even more cred to Cypher ! I will say it again,the best 5 games of quake i have ever had
the pleasure to watch.It had everything you can ask for.And lets not forget Stermy who stepped
up his game and took third.Well deserved.

dm13 maybe was one-sided but the show Cooller gave was beyond awesomeness.

For me it was disappointing final overall. First two maps one sided, T7 is always boring even though the score was close, hub was really awesome (LMAO@COOLLER) and ztn was decent.

Good games, but seen better in this tourney.

rapha - Spart1e last year was so much better for that matter.

I have played q3 since release and have been following mostly every event since then
and for me,nothing beats this.I have seen better games here and there but the overall experience of
this final was so great imo.Everyone has different taste tho.

Spartie's comeback on the first 2 maps was very entertaining. The rest was more or less zzzzz.

I think this rapha vs stermy on dm13 was pretty good. Amazing rocket from rapha with 3 seconds left to send it into OT. Too bad he couldn't capitalize off of it.

dm13 was 1 sided because of an amazing display by cooller, you can't write it off just because it wasn't close.

I was wondering why the tournament viewing area was so empty :) was nice for us in there though :D

I'm feel really sad for cooller that he lost. After so many years of playing Q3, it would have been good to see his at the top of the hill once again.

He still seems to be improving so that's promising.
Anyways I hope he wins Gamescon, but his ' angstgegner' is at Gamescom.

These were my favorite moments of the finals

First was all the sick rails on hub. For a few minutes he couldn't miss and was hittng pixel rails

In the last year, how many events have actually been disappointing gameplay wise? I can't really think of a major event that hasn't produced amazing games.

Yeh I know it sucked. I went to bed just for the CTF finals. It was getting a bit late. Damn hated I missed the finals though.
I decided to avoid reading anything about the results and wait for VODS, but ESR decided to put a picture of a cheering Cypher in the Quakecon topic... FAIL!

They put the results in hidetags, but add an picture of a cheering Cypher...
