Really they should somehow try to use different cfgs for VODs and live streams. Their VODs have amazing quality but it's impossible to watch games live.

They could go super fancy and dual box, with both machines controlled by a single keyboard and mouse. Then they could have a machine dedicated to just making the vod and a machine for streaming.

Not sure QL.TV has the funds to do such a thing though :)

And stop using ustream. Really.

Use what instead? Livestream crashes on a regular basis (watch the SC2 beta streams, lvl^, etc. out there for examples). Justin.TV quality isn't as solid as UStream's for our audience.

I never heard about Livestream crashing. Also, Livestream's NY-based solution works very well for europeans while I guess it should work out well for americans as well. But ustream is really really bad, no matter the picmip: For instance the other day I tried to listen to djWheat's LO3. The image was a still picture yet it managed to do 5 seconds stream for 15 seconds buffering. I have a top notch connection featuring 80Mb/s download bandwitdh and really good pings to whole europe as well as a good 70ms ping to NY. Ustream is that bad.

We've been toying with using picmip at the expense of our VODs. However, most of the people complaining (like you from France) aren't from the US and won't have good pings to US-based ustream servers no matter what we do.

Should our NA-centric audience and overall VOD quality suffer on the live stream so we can cater to the EU scene? Or should we merely recommend our VODs rather than the live stream to the EU scene?

As an NA player and spectator, myself and many others have requested many times for QLTV to use a higher picmip value, it makes watching streams much, much better.


VODS should be done with high picmip as well, and if you feel a match is deserving of a really high quality VOD, do it from demos. HD, 720p, much like qcon 2008 or some of the q2 vods I have seen of PURRI vs Damiah.

-I'm not the one asking for stoping using ustream, I kind of know ustream is good for americans while livestream is better for europeans lag-wise
-anyway, what could it have to do if I was an american (since I didn't complain about lags) ? I would still see you not using a high enough picmip, and because of that I would be watching the same crappy stream cause ustream's bitrate is way too low for this amount of details
