ViewSonic has released details about their second 120 Hz monitor. This time ViewSonic is launching a 24-inch (23.6-inch, but close enough) monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution. This is also a step up from 1680x1080 on the FuHzion VX2265wm.

A new interesting detail is that the new V3D241wm has a LED backlight making it the first 120 Hz monitor to not use the traditional CCFL backlight.

The monitor has a black, glossy bezel with a rounded edge at the bottom and a round stand. The stand allows users to tilt the V3D241wm-LED.

Yea the LED technology will be a huge selling point. Plus it has an HDMI input (2 would be nice) as well as DVI & VGA. The real test would be to hook my ps3/xbox360 up and see if it runs at optimum settings.

God I hope Viewsonic doesn't fuck this up.

No it isn't for me, I like the old format better. I feared I would never get to see a 16:10 24" screen with 120Hz and that fear was about right. Just watch what's next, 21:9 is just out for TV's, screens will get wider and wider

i guess it's mostly because the general public has 1080p stuck in their heads now.

I mean I can understand the companies, they want to maximize their profits but if this trend continues we could see even more retarded design decisions in the future.
Already had "megapixels" with digicams, "dpi" with printer and mice and "HD ready" and "Full HD" with monitors.

But the "GHZ" trend with CPU's has almost stopped thank god. There is hope!

No it won't get wider than 21:9. Because that's the film standard and the TV panels are just adapting to it (or more the consumers who buy these things). We won't see any 30:9 TVs as long as the films aren't made that way, and I don't see anything coming this way in the near future.

Good point. And there are some people who prefer widescreen I see. For my needs I will settle for one of those 16:10 22" as soon as I can afford it. I like that format because you can still go 4:3 without having a tiny picture, I like to play old games ;)

I see your point, too. For some games 4:3 is much better. But monitors tend to get used more and more for all multimedia purposes, hence the wide screen format.

Human eye aspec ratio is closer to 5:4 than 16:10, 21:9 is just ridiculous ;)

That's wrong. Humans have a better sight in the width. Or do you have your eyes on top of each other?

5:4 means width sight is wider than height sight already :)

Still, it's less wider in relation to the height compared to 16:9 and 16:10 (or even Cinemascope), which are more natural to look at for the human eye.

Also announced the LG 120 Hz monitor W2363D and Acer GD245HQ - 120 Hz, the LG having this tidbit:
"LG W2363D also has a Thru-mode to ensure that any input lag is reduced to a minimum. This is good news for gamers."

Eliminates api buffers for color processing and correction, which already add's of latency to just about all monitors on the market. Not bullshit at all if you know anything about monitors.

Quick googling revealed it is a mode to deactivate all picture correction functions to reduce latency.

If anyone gets it right, LG will!

I had one of their older LCD's, it only went at 75hz, but it was pretty kick ass, I landed up playing quake on it most of the time.

sigh.. still no word on when it will ship.

Yup, I am just waiting for this bitch to be released. I'll wait for some reviews first, tho.

I'm just gonna wait for the Panasonic TH-152UX1 when it releases in January next year. :P
