Awesome finale. I shate bricks at the end. I was immediately thinking bring on Season 5, it's gunna be EPIC!!

I can't help but think though season 5 will be the death of Dexter.

Ha, my friend was telling me the exact same thing after we watched the finale.

It was certainly an awesome episode. Dexter truly is one of the best shows ever!!

I love it when shows break dramatic stasis but it's in danger of, or perhaps did long ago, cross the ludicrous events threshold, the same way that any soap opera character has so many things happen to them. I hope they don't make the other characters have some kind of strange amnesia over all the events surrounding Dexter's life.

yeah, the boat ending was pretty much perfect and there would be nothing to continue with without being repetitive but killing off rita will have huge impact + theres already lot of loose ends, so i hope that writers (will) have an idea how to plausibly tie them in the next season.. i was already a bit disappointed by some of their shortcuts and 'deus ex machina' events.. i think they were stretching some stuff too long and subsequently rushed the last two episodes

great finale to a great season. that guy who played trinity is a terrific actor.

He's a bad guy in Cliffhanger also :D

He's also great in 3rd Rock from the Sun, although from a totally different angle.

I've seen trough that show a few times and had a hard time taking him seriously at first when I saw him in Dexter :P

i for one can not take the entire dexter seriously, let alone some obscure guy in it

It is set up quite nicely.

Rita was killed in the bath tub. Which is not Trinitys style. She is a mother, so she should have been 'pushed' into suicide. The 10 year old boy was already freed, so Trinity should have killed another boy and sliced up a younger girl in the bath tub.

The cops will see this as being very strange.

Also, Quinn has seen Dexter out all night partying in clubs and running off all the time, apparently out to get some ass.

Masuka knows Rita was fooling around with the neighbor.

Dexter has been in a rage lately, even speeding and going to jail. This is uncharacteristic for him.

Lastly, Debra knows he is the brother of a serial killer, and was found in the same situation as his older brother, which was mentally unstable. She now knows Dexter could have been twisted like his brother.

The next season will be about everyone thinking Dexter killed Rita, and Debra finding out the truth.

She will follow her suspicious back until she revisits the 'Bay Harbor Butcher' killings and realizes the Truth about Dexter.

What she does about it... I don't know.

She might kill Dexter and raise Harrison, but years later Harrison shows signs of being a psychopath, so Debra teaches him Harrys code, and it all starts over again.

Or Debra will help Dexter... or something else happens.

They have to make it the last season, they can't take it much further without totally changing the circumstances of the show altogether (Like Dexter in a new city, with a new job and new identity but that would be terrible and just retreading old ground).

Reckon he'll end up in jail rather than being killed.

Didn't see it coming 'til he came home and the place was a bit messy. Really good and genuinely bothered me. I really hated trinity, the actor did it so well... he was just an absolute horrible cunt.

Yeah, I think one of the most impressive ranges of role is comedy to horrible cunt and to still be convincing. It's often hard to throw off your impression of an actor from a previous role so for John Lithgow to make me forget his Third Rock from the Sun character and be an absolute cunt was impressive. JK Simmons was similar in going from Neo-Nazi psycho in Oz to loving Dad in Juno, it does make for a bit of an initial headfuck though.

Good acting is good directing.
