england were not appalling against sweden, sweden jus played alright.

sweden have a notorioulsy stingy defence. Not many goals go in against them, so in all honesty we did well not to lose.
Fair enuff we should of stuffed the swedes i nthe first half but it never happened. Forcing us to use long balls missing out our midfield completely :[

Any thoughts on the US vs Portugal match? I stayed up until 6:15am to watch it live. I thought that it was a great match that Portugal definitely should have won, but the early goal put too much pressure on them and allowed the US to play more loose. Also, I got the impression that Figo's injury was bothering him quite a bit. The US vs South Korea game should be another great one.

I thought the US played pretty well if a little shakey. I think they'll lose some of those nerves now and play even better - I'd put some money on them winning all 3 games now and going through with 9 full points... but we'll see.

Yup, It was a deserved victory by the US team. They played well (not brilliant, but worked hard), and Portugal looked really nervous and out of focus.

i cant see them beating south korea, but they do stand a good chance of going through now, portugal under estimated them and thourght they could do anything. belguim and south korea wont make that mistake. and i reckon portugal will pip them to 2nd place in the group

england arent what they can be at the moment, defence and midfield is a mess and heskey (the human brick) is a waste of pitch. not only that but i dont see what sven thinks butt can pull off in midfield (apart from maybe a nail). another 4 years and wed be a better team.

we needed murphy and gerrard in midfield (and dean ashton up front :p)

looks like heskey will be played up front, that pairing will scare argentina, scholes looks set to play on the left though, which is strange as we have a obvouse (spelling) solution imo, play cole left mid and bridge left back. we have played god knows how many people on the left to find a solution to that and 2nd game into the cup we still dont have a clue :/

oh and butt will bring a much needed bite to the midfield i hope, we got overrun vs sweden in that position and we cant let that happen again, shows how much we miss gerrard :/

Argentina played crap and England were the better side today. We will never hear the end of this.

yep, Argentina was abyssmal on offense. Many times I saw an English defender or midfielder simply come up from behind and take the ball almost at will, especially in the first half. I think the difference was the English defense. They didn't allow many corners and no close shots until the end when Argentina was pressing very hard. I'm going to sleep now.
