also, starcraft is a game which is VERY hardcore to play, yet it's doing great. even though it was released over ten years ago. how did it become such a success? by giving the players the choice of which color their units have?
U are really missing the point. If u like bikes over the cars, even if cars are faster u can't put ale the bikes in one bag (why would u like to race in 125cc when u can go with MotoGP). And tho u can't even compare CS to Quake.

Yes, speed is one of the many factors where cars are much better than bikes. But when I was comparing cars to bikes the main difference which I had on my mind was 4 to 2 wheels.
What I am saying is: If a person likes to race competitive and can have no fun at all in any type of racing involving 4 wheeled vehicles, he still can choose between 2 wheeled racing sports, picking one over another by the factor of competitiveness.
So if I don't care enough about competition (but still is a important factor to me), to change to superior platform I should pick the most casual game on the platform that I'm playing because I'm would just waste my time on something that is actually competitive among that platform?

You fail to see that if I'm not a completive hardcore 1000000APM Starcraft player, that this doesn't make me a casual CS shoot through walls fag. Not every thing is white or black - there is a plenty of room in between for everybody.

If by scene u mean people then yes, but u should know that it is not what makes a competitive game. If there were like milion ppl playing Pong, having forums, tournaments, analyzing how to never miss a ball, how to fake your opponent - the game still wouldn't be competitive, because of simple lack of depth.
I get that there same type of aspects in Quake and in SC like u mentioned: timing, strategy, aim=micro(?), leaning curve etc.
And that in most of these aspects SC just beats shit out of Quake, but saying that if u don't pick a game by this aspects and pick first by type of game (shooter) and then this aspects u might as well play CS is just stupid.
It has everything to do with the quality of the activity, but the type of activity comes first. U fail to understand this simple statement.
And are u playing SC at the highest level? No? So why are you playing SC when the level you play at is equal to what you would be doing in RedAlert (or any other RTS)? Quake offers me a much better casual activity being much more deep then CS. Even if it would be easier to take some competition and achieve something in it in CS, the idea that u could simple win by clicking your mouse doing random moves (this is the way u kill ppl in CS) makes me not to found of it.

The do make criteria of the type, but the games it self don't offer as much as Quake. I tried both of them and except casual play they do not offer much.
And I do believe that u specteded Quake for it's competitiveness before u discovered SC.
I play different shooters and I simply can't find another one which would demand as much from u in multiplayer as Quake. If your argument have been valid I would never switch from FIFA to PES.

So u are admitting that there are parts of Quake (CPM QW) that are competitive, which is the exactly opposite to you saying before that is not. You are very inconsistent.
Quake - CS
1. Movement: Quake = bunny hoping, strafing, dogging, rocket jumping etc. CS = none of that
2. Weapons: Quake = projectiles, range, speed, etc. CS = point'n'click
3. Timing: Quake = items, possible items taken by enemy. CS = ?
4. Map control: Quake = many aspects. CS = one team defends, other attacks
To this time I can assume u prefer CPM over vq3.
And I can say: What is CPM demanding that Quake do not?

Of course they can easily hit 800 still. As I said. With simple APM it's easy. Action and hot key spam simultaneously. 50% of pro gamers APM comes from hot key spam. And have you watched that JulyZerg replay? How about you show proof that he has even _close_ to 400 EAPM. You little Starcraft newbie.
If you're talking about the courage guy you're probably thinking about if.classic. And yes he has quite high APM but still not comparable EAPM to Jaedong, Flash and Bisu. EAPM is all about _mechanical_ speed. It's something you can _train_. If you put down 10 scheduled hours a day and play the same maps 30 times a day like pro gamers do then you'll end up with 200 EAPM too if you're not pure crap.
People seem to think that pro gamers have a higher level of strategic play and what not compared to amateurs. They don't. It's simple rote exhausting all possible scenarios. In fact most amateurs have higher strategic play than pro gamers but lack in the macro department to hold up a match. This is simply because they mostly win on strategic plays rather than their brute macro.
By this paragraph, I have to assume that you have never played or watched the game. You're simply not educated enough to even understand what I'm talking about.

It's just because all the fuzz about SC started in Korea, where most people seem to have a sane attitude towards gaming. There are no 60yrs old politicians claiming that pc games will turn you into suicide killers as soon as you touch them, which is one of the things that greatly hinders the european scene to get anywhere near to what it's like in korea.

No, all the games you're listing can support either a casual or a competitive person. Quake 3 would be like Bullet Ball. If you are of the competitive nature, you're look for the most deep game. If you were a casual, you'd look for the easiest to get into. In any case with your examples, most sports will likely fill that role.

Now if we substitute video games with ball sports, you're calling Michael Jordan an idiot who wasted his time, because he claimed to be a competitive person but chose to play Basketball instead of soccer/football, which is, in terms of competition, superior to basketball.
The difference might not be as obvious as the difference between SC and Quake, but in your black/white game-nazi world that doesn't even matter, cause when you're saying 'a competitive person has to look for the most competitive game only, regardless of any personal preferences, otherwise he's an idiot' (which you do), even the smallest difference will radically seperate the competitive guys (the ones playing the most competitive game) and the idiots (the ones playing all other games), with nothing in between.
No, you didn't. You made up some bullet points, with the majority of them beeing bullshit, and claimed these points are the reason why SC is 'superior', not 'different'. That doesn't change the fact tho that the only thing about SC that is superior to Quake or CS or Fifa or whatever is the environment in which it is played (bigger community, more money involved, etc.). The game has simply hit the right market at the right time, a lucky coincidence. That doesn't make the game itself better tho. In terms of raw gameplay, none of these games is superior to the others, they're just different.

Professional scene? Best of the best. Real players making more money in a month than any professional Quake player has made in their entire life. Unlike Quake, if you actually practice and have some talent, you can try to make a living doing it like Ret and Idra are right now.

However Ret and Idra and all other non-S-class pro gamers earn less than you would do working at the grocery store. They get free food and place to sleep. Other than that the payment is really miniscule. They do it not for the money (because then they'd be stupid thinking they could be the one like 6 out of 7 billions who earn much.
