_SK3L3T0R_ is organizing something special for all Quake 2 jumpers. You can win money to complete a map. The first player who completes the map draxi6 will be awarded 25€. The map will be uploaded on 15:00 BST, 20 September 2009. The maximum number of clients will be increased and the map will run until we have a winner.
Yeah! After this there will be something more then 25EU I heard. =]
At jumping ping doesnt matter so much imo. Whole world can compete in this tournament.
One of the reasons i Preferre the Q2 movement most of all the quakes is that "normal" trickjumping is used all the time. Although it wasnt really showed in this movie as this was mainly about using weapons to help move around.
It might not always be complicated jumps, but flying around the map in ways that the map makers did not always intend is nice.

He's right. In fact, I didn't like that movie cause it has too many weapon jumps. The great thing about Quake 2 is that tricks mean something cause they are used ingame. That makes weapon jumps uninteresting for me. It's like Q3 defrag. Ye, it's ok, but doesn't fascinate me as a good pure trickjumping demo.

Total bullshit - Q2 engine allows clients to change their speed so all speed hacks works. In Quake 3 engine you can't that. Not to mention that Q2 engine don't have OB and weapons sux for TJ.

And if you think that lack of OB in Trickjumping aspect is nothing then you don't have clue about Trickjumping at all. Only because you haven't hear of "q2 tj scene controversy" it doesn't mean that it don't exist, but it might be true since almost no one do tricks in q2 compared to Q3DF, there are no active mappers, competitions, offline tables&rankings and one global database of online records. Such thing will always exist but it is not a problem for anyone who have some clue about it.
It was you who get my message in that way. I'm ont telling you that Speedhacks works in Q2 and there is no one to detect them. They don't work in Q3. End of story. Saying "Defrag would be much better if it was a Q2 mod ;)" is total bullshit and nonsense.
If there are no speedhacks in Q3 (which I don't know) would only be because no one considered them worth doing, because it's perfectly possible, not to say easy (which I do know). Tho I'm not sure if you are refering to the oldschooll (dumber, just feed inflated times) speedhacks or the "strafebot" speedhacks. In any case, if you think speedhacks can't happen in defrag, you are just wrong.
I'm refereeing to Q2 "Speed Hack" - ability for player to to having normal speed much faster that other players online. I see this in action: you press a button and you speed is 800 or so by pressing only +forward. This is IMPOSSIBLE in Q3 engine. Having TJ game on an engine that allows such things , an saying that is its "best environment for TJ mod" is BULLSHIT ! When it comes to "strafebot" hacks in q3 - their can be detected by the mile.
Actually, I remember oldschooll speedhacks for q3.
EDIT: And anyway: Why are we discussing speedhacks? Even if it was prevented at q3 it wouldn't make q3 a game worth trickjumping. It's actually the worst game of the quake series for tricking. Which is the point you are searching excuses for not seeing. Security issues can be sorted out, poor movement design can't.

Quake 3 along with promode define what is TJ. Things like 3xRJ and other combos/things that you will never see in ANY other game was discovered in Quake 3. There are more Q3 TJ videos that every other game. Discussion is over since it's pointless to argue with you bullshit. Go play a game where you must change FPS for almost every trick hahha lol

so you're saying +forwarding at 800 ups is hard to spot? i'm sure you've used /timescale >1 in q3, for watching demos or whatever. that's what these q2 speedhacks look like: the player doing EVERYTHING faster, even falling, because what it is is nothing but a different timescale
oh btw, since you think cheating is such a big deal, would i be wrong in saying that you approach this whole trickjumping concept solely from a competitive point of view? if not, rofllamo
Try to come to server , change your speed , and win a single map. No one care about cheating on q2 jump servers. Because you can cheat only in few maps, and it is not a problem to remove the cheated times. + good jump servers is kicking the player which changed his speed. It even might get kicked because of speed hacking if he got enormous lags. the server is kicking player even if your speedhack is just for 0.00001 sec. There were many timescale tricks but that didn't help players to get the first places.
So for such tourneys we could even allow those cheats cos there is no point to use them :) you wouldn't be able to do even first jump :)
Try to remove every autoexec.cfg / default.cfg under the folders /baseq2 - /opentdm and /tdm. If the game wont work properly then try to select from r1q2gl to default (opengl) or download other client (aprq2)
In this installer is PURRI pak included with his custom made everything (textures, sounds...) If you want to have default everything then you will need to remove his pak out of baseq2/ (pak3). After you might have problems with missing textures etc... For that you will need to google for Quake2 3.20V and install in quake2/ .. if the textures are terrible for you or anyone :P
anyways, make sure to go to your Nvidia Control Panel and set "Threaded Optimization" to "Off" or you'll have trouble.

Played a lot on that server several years ago. Tried some while back but for somehow my strafing is completely messed up and I cant manage the simpelest strafe: (
yeah, gratz n00k!e! Damn, I play Q2 for so long. How do you know when to change FPS? Jumping like a madman and changing FPS from 120, 90 and to 60 at each jump is just insane!
It allows the player to do certain types of jumps A LOT easier. Ppl are just changing fps all the time during a map each time they see a different kind of jump. Think there's like 3 or 4 different types of fps they use.
Makes you able to do various jumps :) Even on regular (q2dm1-q2dm8) maps there are some jumps which cannot be done without either 100 or 120 FPS (to be honest I don't remember, I used to play Q2 but not for a very long time and last time I played it was like 2 years ago :P). On the other hand, lower FPS make it possible to do some better ladder jumps, iirc. Hence jump player need to change it during their runs :s
edit: which client nookie uses? he doesnt get stuck at all even when changing fps. I use aprq2 and it happens sometimes with certain fps values (not being able to continue bunny jumping and therefore losing all motion), and I hope its not a mod thing because now i only play action quake on q2

edit: I tried the map with aprq2 and could not get so far. With r1q2 I improved a lot (mainly due to changing fps a lot, thats a big reason why q3 > q2 for jump mods because it is a crucial factor). Maybe i should switch clients

I have another question about r1q2. I´m looking at purri´s q2 configs on the installer and it seems he uses deathmonitor to exec all of them because they all start with "dm.". Can you use deathmon with r1q2, and is it allowed ton servers?
There´s 2 reasons why I currently use apr: laziness to create a new cfg, and apr triggers which in action quake are useful to report frags automatically with colors etc. With deathmon I could replace that and more.
