I don't think it's THAT stupid. I mean, last cup they held (which he won) had players like k1llsen, 9uard, zyv, madix and Dem0n playing. It's a somewhat good pool of players as far as I know.

DE is perhaps more fair. SE is defenetly more exiting!

imo best tournament layout is one where the winner of the LB is awarded 3rd place and the finalists in the WB take home 1st and 2nd.
that way you have to win all games to become 1st and the wb final = grand final... but you still have a chance for some prize / prestige / whatever if you lose a game somewhere earlier than the final :>

tbh I have no clue why ppl aren't useing this format more in tournaments....

because that, too, can make third place finish depend on the seedings along.

e.g. the tournament has one strongest player who beats everyone. Whoever of the next stronger players meets him in the semis can only get 3rd, while the one who wins the other semis gets 2nd.
But there is no knowing if the 2nd placed is actually better than the 3rd placed. It was decided by the person who made the seedings.

Yes, your approach also has benefits and is probably better than SE in some way, but imo this is the argument why full DE is uesd.

/on afterthought:

I think your system might indeed be best if there were more high caliber tournaments so Redeye could make a new ranking which then could be used for seeding. Would make people attend more tournaments to get better seeding and reap the benefits :D

well you could also just make the winner of the WB take home the first prize and let the loser of the WB final play the final in the LB (aka one more round in the LB but without the winner going to a "grand final") but the thing is...
You always have some dependance to seeding unless you make trees for everyone that lost (like a WB, LB, LLB and a LLLB etc. untill only 2 ppl are left). But that takes too much time. You can also just make everyone play everyone (kinda like soccer) but that takes even more time.

The most advantage for doing it as I described is that you have a final between nr1 and 2. Which is nice for people watching, as most ppl don't get that theres a WB final, LB final AND grand final... And another thing is that there is a lot of pressure on the WB games (which currently is kind of missing) because if you lose you won't get 1st / 2nd prize.
Also (with full DE) you have the problem of what to do in the grand final, do you handicap the player who comes from the LB or not? And how do you handicap him (give WB winner a map or do 2 bo3's etc.)
I like DE... I really do... but the whole layout is strange as it nears the end. Which results in really messed up rules

but who would want to watch a match for 2nd after the one for 1st is finished? Imo, it really doesn't give you that culmination of the tournament you wanted.

And more importantly, in terms of motivation it is gonna suck for the player who just lost the WB final.

one of your arguments was that 3rd player could've lost to the eventual winner somewhere so you could do it like this.
And ye I agree with that, which is why I myself favor the WB final being for place 1 and 2, and LB for all places below that :>

huh I've registered to play a match against a pro but now if you give byes to the pros the tournament will lose a lot of its interrest to me :/ Maybe I get get lucky and win the 1st game anyways
