I really appreciate that this was done, and the matches are fun to watch, but the commentators are very biased in Purri's favor. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Purri, and consider him the better Q2 player, but I don't think that in the commentary Damiah was getting his due. His early control was disregarded, as luck, as were his intelligent (albeit obvious) spam point kills.
This is based on the q2duel1 match.

I kinda felt it was slightly biased from one of the commentators as well, it was a bit annoying but nothing huge (one can use their own brain after all).

I found is quite entertaining when they had to argue for a minute whether or not Damiah missed an RA jump or not, heh.

All in all, I don't play Q2 myself, I think its pretty frustrating, but this is entertaining. More Vods!

I watched the VOD and didn't think it was that bad. I was calling it like I see it, and purri played a lot better on q2duel1. So if it seems biased, then it was because he played better. Keep in mind I was doing it because I was asked to cast, and I'm not interested in exaggerating the excitement or pretending both players are performing very well all the time. It certainly wasn't the intent, how did the other maps seem?

I enjoyed all of them, including that one. I meant no offense, it just kind of deflated the performance in my opinion. I definitely appreciate that you lent a hand on the commentary, 'cause out of all players of my native tongue, I'd consider you at the top of the pile.
appreciated it to the same degree that I enjoy when Frank Mir is doing commentary on UFC fights. There's an insight level that isn't there with the average commentator.

it's still played, just not considered that great of a map... also opentdm added a instant tele feature that you can vote

I would assume it's rather hard for non-profesionnal shoutcasters not to be biased towards someone they personally know.
( speaking mostly for Dahang as I know they met in a few events )

hehe, yeah q2 is really fast. Weapon switching are slow, but this is just a tactical part. If you'll switch to wrong weapon in some situations then you'll be fucked up. Q2 has really hardcore skills I would say.

Q2 has the best movement set of all quakes. Then there are the slow rockets and slow weapon switch, which made it get the fame of being slow, but the game itself isn't any slow. And that you see in the video isn't any upgraded version of q2 gameplay or anything rare. It's the good old Q2.

Compared to CPM where you can instantly dish 300+ damage, I guess it's a good idea to penalize a wrong weapon switch.

Man I wish people played Q1 and Q2 in America so I could test this out properly :(

tastyspleen.net has lots of servers in the US, and also you can search for more (like acme ctf, etc) in qtracker or other game browser

just don't disconnect from one of the few servers when dahang or I connect and you will be able to play alot of tdm/1v1 games

I like cpm movement set too, but I still place q2 one above. I like more the gameplay style it gives with more tricks used at fights.

BTW after i recorded Damiahs pov from the .mvd2 files, the weapon model didn't show up (tried cl_gun "1" or hand "0"). Enny tips or tricks i can use with Keygrip2 or with q2pro so that i can see the weapon-model during playback?

Bit shocking how many missed RA jumps there were on Aero? Or is this jump a lot harder in Q2?

it has to be pixed perfect in q2.. movement is a lot harder than it looks when the pros do it :P

it's not THAT hard but obviously harder than q3's hub jump

This is one of the hardest important jumps in Q2. I make this jump 3 / 10 =P And I'm playing q2 for years xD

I can tell ya, many people dislike aerowalk in Q2, just because of this jump. Of course I'm with people who dislike aero=P

Gameplay did become faster over the years but yes they still use the chaingun a lot :)

Thresh was very slow back then too. He played very different to everyone else.
