The whole argument is that working with the metric system is easier because it is based on multiples of ten and the conversion between different measurements becomes much easier. Like for example the a liter is equals one dm³ and weighs (almost exactly) one kilogram.

Also, you euros have a counting system that isn't based on multiples of 10. There are 365 days in a year, somewhere between 28 and 31 days in a month, 7 days in a week, 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, 60 seconds in a minute, etc, etc etc. Why don't you change that to multiples of 10? Oh, that's right, because it works fine. Just like imperial units work fine.

You should check the history of SI units before you get something wrong. All units were "made up" at some point. And then later efforts were made to define them based on measurable natural occurences. And yes then seconds were defined on the basis of the decay of Ceasium. The meter was originally just a staff with a certain length. The later it was defined as the disctance light travel in vacuum in a specific time.
Actually the only unit that still has not "natural" definition is kilogram. It is still based on the original kilogram that is kept in Paris.

I don't understand your question at all. Speed is just distance / time. You can measure it with any unit of distance divided by any unit of time to get the AVERAGE speed over that time interval.

It depends. m/s isn't the standard for cars in EU, km/h is. It's the same in imperial. Mostly we'll do velocity in f/s and acceleration in f/s/s. For example gravity is 32 ft/s/s. As I said though, it all depends on context.
