The AGP Tour will be a tour and the AGP is actually a little diff but details on that soon. If what I read is what I read, then the AGP is going to be focusing on LIVE events. GGL does online ladders and leagues, and then stupid live events like the HHGL. AGP is going to be real pro gaming, no Snoop Dogg.

Seems he's more aware that of the accessibility factor. If they get a GTV type setup working, then it'd be much smarter to use QL. Yes, the PUB SCENE will watch, if given the opportunity, not to mention there could be official announcements for all QL users on the main page.
Trying to stick with a superior game (due to development time) with a population of about 30 vs a slightly inferior game with a significantly larger audience, is a bad idea from a business perspective. If you don't care about the spectators or possible sponsors, then great. Stick with vQ3, there are other leagues/ tournaments that are doing that, so you have that option. But to suggest that this is wisest for them from any standpoint aside from purist is delusional.

It's! At least for sponsors and media companies. WoW attracts more audience than any other PC game at the market currently. Even PVP is horribly boring and most WoW players also think so, it's still bigger than any other game out there, also spectator wise.

Benefits not only the AGP, but every involved side. Don't forget Q3 is still a comercial product you have to buy. Choosing QL provides not only the chance of getting the pub players watching, but also the chance of getting new people trying the game when knowing about the event, something impossible with Q3. So the benefit is not only a bigger audience for them, but also the posibility of growing the comunity for all.

I think the games are more interesting in ql than in cpma vq3. The weapon balance seems to make it just more entertaining to play/watch(although ql is RL whorish as it is now) CQ3 is also good though the rampjump is kinda weird.

Here is an idea. Make each event include TDM perhaps CTF maybe even CA, then see if all those signup to 1v1 as well just for the fun of it.

I like the idea of a team based quake being played at AGP hopefully it will happen I would prefer it to be TDM rather then CTF as TDM is by far more fun to watch :)

yeah, I would prefer TDM over CTF too. But CTF is imo fun to watch as well. And on top of that it's easier to follow, cause there's just two flags and non-quakers clearly see what these guys are doing there. CTF is even more comparable to 'real' sports.

CTF is more chaotic to watch though.

CTF with 0-0 scores and perhaps only switching to the attacker once he actually grabs the flag (missing the skill of getting into the base and perhaps taking out a whole defence). Watching powerup runs that only have 1 level of success (a cap) which means 90% of the time they are pointless. Watching hundreds of frags of which most are totally pointless and easy kills with no risk to the attacking party. Watching most players who couldn’t compete in division 3 TDM battling it out for Eurocup glory while they strain to kill somebody with mg despite it doing 7 damage and with a clip of 100 bullets. Watching an attacker finally get the flag out of base only to be spawned on by 5 mg'ers who take him down instantly through no skill of their own.

While in theory CTF is much more simple and sports like, to actually watch more then 1 game takes real effort. Don’t get me wrong there are some amazingly skilled players and some really good high quality games but most of the time you wont see a single good moment in an entire match.

The level we played at was low to medium and even there it was pretty much as described. High skill is even worse :/

would be nice to see an active scene because pickups just fucking suck and anyone who can remotely play can do reasonably well, good gameplay gone to waste

I saw Streetrunner pull a Christian Bale-esqe scene at WSVG Summer 2007 in Dallas. It was pretty interesting.

I just heard that rant, its pretty scary given he played American Psycho. If he did that around the time of the film I think it would have added an extra edge to the film!

I would love to see an improvement on VQ3 as much as the next person but certainly not QL it's piss poor

The Quake community need QL to get a new audience and hopefully grow and get bigger, q3 wont grow anymore then it already has, QL have the chance to get meny new players and possible grow really big.
Thats what Quake need right now, and hopefully there will be the mods to quakelive that we have in q3 to.

Streetrunner must be reading this thread, so I can't help but post about a minor frustration. Youtube video? I understand that it's free and fine, but wasting 100mbs for a demo that's worth 1mb... and it still won't look as good. What a ridiculous difference... At least rare demos could be accessible.

I don't care for how much mbs, only for stuttering. It's much better to watch some demos than every few seconds wait till youtube downloads a bit more of the video. Sure you can use download helper to actually dl the video, but it's no fun, as I said, to dl 100mb instead of 1 :)

who cares about traffic? And the quality is no issue either on youtube.

Make sure your youtube setting is view high quality for our videos. The videos have streamed fine for me so far in my company's tests in the USA and right now in Germany, were I am presently. The QuakeCon QuakeLive matches actually are in a higher res and have an HD selection. Some people will have to pause it to have it load in but that is their connections fault really. The quality while not in game quality of a demo, is pretty good. Check it out. Has to be at least high quality though.

We are only starting with youtube and will continually add matches. People can always watch the demos but we are trying to pull in alot more than the past players to WATCH this sport. In time we will host the videos ourselves. This is only the beginning. Don't assume it's the end all. You always can watch your demos. We cannot just show demos in a browser ;)
