The most fascinating individual of this summer is hands down the ESWC Quake 3 champion Alexei "Cypher" Yanushevksy. This week he got featured in SK Gaming's weekly 1on1 video where he talks about becoming a good player, winning the ESWC, his dreams for the future and why Jibo will never be number one. Enjoy.
He didn't really give a reason. He named him in his top 5 players, said he's definately a high level player but that he will never be number one. He mentioned jibo's previous results and that he has no problem making top 3.
I suspect that may have translated ruder than he intended? Unsure, sounded pretty rude to me :P
Personally I think jibo has played some of the highest skilled matches I've ever seen. But he doesn't seem to be able to perform at quite the same level consistently. Check his pov from gamegune finals versus av3k from the first bo3, it's insane :).
i suppose not, but it does say a lot for his skill/determination
he does admit that gaming doesn't take priority over his real life, ie school, which is a good decision anyways
assuming he didn't have any other real obligations outside of gaming, he'd still be one of the top players, just much better than he is now, not to say he is bad or anything =]
nice intervieuw mate, these 1on1s are getting better and better :_
exept the ingame footage the sound was a bit cracky, but nevertheless great job !! 8>
Too much modesty when talking about zero4, no word about k1llsen, who have the potential to bring him down, and too confident about jibo, which is a little bit lack of respect, but nice interview anyway.
i guess he says jibo can`t be number one because of recent events and he knows, that jibo isn`t really training for events...he just likes to compete. still i think jibo could beat everyone with proper train (just like of the guys above said, the first bo3 against av3k was sick).
have to agree with what he said about cooler...if he had the time and devotition to train he could be nr. 1
and who knows maybe k1llsen will be in his top 5 after athen. but
I was impressed. Cypher seemed pretty humble about himself and also very reflective on the fact that his career will never be in "pro" gaming. I'm glad he's able to enjoy himself while on top.
I don't know why I am surprised by this, but Cypher actually presents himself very well in this interview.
It's always difficult for young(er) people to have so much success and remain as humble as they are.
As for his comments on Jibo- whatever. It didn't come across to me as being very disrespectful, it just seems like he was asked a question and he gave a very honest and straightforward answer, and i can respect that.
good job guys, although I wish you'd push more personal information out of him. "I hang out with my girlfriend, I want to focus on school" are as cliche as the next answer, and really vague ;|
as that may be private stuff, i wish they'd be less vague about the game itself
these interviews are 90% boring.. they all dish out standard answers like football players "X is a great player, i respect him", "i will work hard bla bla", "i really wanted to win more" etc.
this was more of a general interview, i'll let it slide..
but the aftermatch interviews could get more into detail about the game like
- "dude was pressuring me @ mega, he has a tight play in close quarters"
- "i hate x,y spawns on z map"
- "did you see that <insert funny scene from his pov>? i think that should be in a movie"
- "i kept messing <something> during the game, but i controlled <something> and it didn't matter"
etc.
more insight about the fucking game!!
stop being so bleak in what you say..
I agree, esp during rapha interview, where he'd go on and on about certain things z4 told him to change about his play but he never gives an example :<
yo.. cypher is good player nice guy and all but if jibo trains or of he is in shape
cypher can be owned i repeat cypher can be owned
some 1 ever played jibo online?? omg teh shaft:D i have 40 lg omg jibo does 15 more:)
jibo will be fine next event ;) i hope hes a mad man
IMO Kifir(Cypher in russian) isn't best yet, he's too young. I don't mean age, I'm talking about his nerves and emotions. Real top1 after lose don't speak like this: "gg, samiy tupoi iz lamz" (c) Cypher
i`ve been called worse and said worse things. played ra3 (*FUCKRA3*) a long time. they are known for strong language ;)
well i can`t do shit in online games....but if a guy is sitting some seats away from me on lan and calls me a hurensohn, i would fuck him up!
I don't think Jibo not being #1 has to do antyhing with practicing... He has potential to be 1v1, but he chokes in every top-notch match. Nerves, perhaps?
Besides, can you even say that someone who shoots like Jibo does not practice?
