why doesn't it? headphones are not a decent substitute for a 5.1 setup and never will be it doesn't matter what they do you're still essential stuck with two speakers one to the left and one to the right
and as for my output comment: it amazes me the amount of people I've told to set VLC to output @ 5.1 instead of stereo and they finally realize why it doesn't sound crap
I think 5.1 means that you got 5 speakers. 3 in front and 2's back.
2.1 is Headphones. One for right-ear and one for left-ear.
7.1 is the same deal. But then you have to invest in 7 speakers.
I dunno what the .1 means. Someone enlighten me please.
I got some speedlink 5.1 with a amp. Biggest waste of money. Previously I had a sennheiser hd201 (quite cheap) and when I used them instead of the crap I had before there was a instant improvement in sound quality. The 5.1 I thought would have been awesome but they sound shit right from the start. I tried to tweak the settings etc so i could justify the purchase but in the end I went back to the hd201's. Now I have some Audio Technica ath-a700's and they sound great.
