Hi there,
after the eswc masters i want to give q3 a try but i have one big problem: my movement sucks really hard.

I attached two demos from me doing strafjumping in vq3 and cpm.
As you can see it's really really bad especially in vq3(always flying out of corners!). I technically do know how strafejumping is supposed to work (press forward + left/right key and move the mouse in the direction in which the key was pressed) but it seems that i don't do it right in game. I'm far behind to ever manage to do the bridge to rail jump or the jump on the RA on hub^^

I hope you can give me some advice how to do proper strafejumping and bunnyhopping.

oh ok, that's a defrag map...
big deal, he can still use it to learn quake's basics, whatever the physics ; he could even use other quake and so on. at least that's a start of a usefull training map, right ? if you got better, under cpma, fine, go on, help

learning to properly cj is greatly beneficial to one's movement. defrag is a medium specifically tailored to learning that skill, amongst others. the mechanics of a proper cj/sj don't change between osp/defrag compared to cpma vq3.

in other words, if all you're looking for is to perfect your cj, defrag can't hurt.

Use the timer at the top to time yourself through the level.

Do it for various routes and try different techniques to get little boosts. Look for best positions on stairs etc.

To be honest positioning is far more important.
Any fool can learn to move well, or well enough for it to not come anywhere near the gains you get from knowing WHEN and WHERE to move and at WHAT TIME in the game.

sorta agree with jamerio, but watch some demos and download some practice maps, there is for example a bridge to rail map where you can practice the jump without falling down so you can repeat the jump again and again.

Else check your settings, eg. do you have your fps capped? I can't remember if sv_maxfps affects jumping either but i'm fairly sure it does.

Play defrag. Yes it will help you learn to move better and NO IT DOESN'T MATTER IF U DON'T TRAIN IN CPMA. Just playing defrag and getting your strafing/movement knowledge down you can adjust it to cpma.

Don't listen to the clowns who say it doesn't matter.
