im quite dissapointed, the UK might actually win 1or2 games anyway looking at those groups so fear not meez, our uk representive might do us proud. Ideally though.. i would have been there to pick up the pieces for sure.

the groupings are based on seedings. a seeding is a prediction of how a player will do in the tournament. Then they start from the top, the four highest seeded players go one in each group, the next four seeded players(5-8) go one in each etc until there are no players left. Its done in an attempt to have the highly seeded players face each other as late in the tournament as possible! :>

whats wrong with group A? All players are pretty tough. Cypher is obviously a beast and unity is extremely skilled and is bootcamping + playing eswc france right before masters. Its gonna be extremely tough to get out of group A. Dan is a cunt.

although all groups obviously have strong player, it should be quite clear that fooki and chypher advance in group a for example

And yes Group C is the most Failure of a group I've ever seen , thanks to those ridiculous seeds I guess :/

With regards to the seeding...
Lan tournaments are very different to online tournaments . There are no ping advantages/disadvantages and much more pressure on the players to perform .
International Lan tournament achievements from any year should take way more preference over continent based online tournaments no matter how recent .

Cypher and fooKi walk all over this group, might not even drop maps except to eachother.
1) Cypher
2) fooKi

Group B
Jibo, noctic, arrw and griffin all have a good chance to make top2. I think jibo is getting out on top for sure. Im going to put a 3way tie for second between those 3, and my boy griffin comes out on top.

Group B: Maybe, but I don't think griffin can compete with arrw's brutal aim. It all depends on how well noctis can adapt to the given circumstances too. I'm gonna go for jibo & noctis in here.
Group C: Might go either way in this group I think. The americans might get knocked out early for sure.
Group D: This is also a tough one. Always dodgy when fellow countryman play against each other (the poles that is). I'm pretty sure avek will be there when he needs to. I see him & fox go through.

thx for that link to czm vs rapha. the uploader is right. rapha is the complete package. if he doesn't choke on lan, he will go far. NOT anymore, not now.

He doesn't have hub monopoly anymore, and I'm pretty sure he is aware of it. Yes, his skill level on that map is world class, maybe a league of its own, but back then not many people knew how to play hub, now they do. In fact, as far as I remember only fox could play vs him euqally.

I'm pretty sure that there will be at least a one person who will not throw hub out vs czm. It's balsy, but highly probable.

my predictions, just cuz I thought some of you have some silly things in their predictions ;)

Poule Winner nr2 3rd
A Cypher Fooki Unity
B Noctis ArrW Jibo (allthough he might not try the last few maps and drop down to 4th)
C * CZM Prozac Z4 (tied on maps with killsen)
D Fox Chance Matrox (or rapha... gonna be close)

* I actualy am not sure about the skillz of czm / z4 if they both own like they used to they will both progress but I have a feeling they are not (yet) at their old level... I still think CZM should be able to progress regardless of shape.

And what is this stuff about C being the poule of death.... if I had to chose a poule to play in it would be either A or C (based on expected skill of the players). When you look at the poules the most skill is imo in D.
The other poules are about equal but the diffence is in how this skill is distrubuted. In poule A imo theres 2 realy good players, in B theres 3 and in C theres 5 equal players (I do not think vo0 will be ready for this tournament yet... I think he will learn a lot at it though, and perform a lot better at the finals)

In my oppinion, the most exciting thing about this event is not who wins, but the battle between newschoolers and oldschoolers.
I think we will end up with a tournament mainly dominated by oldschoolers.

Only "new" player (who is not that new) that has a chance of making it into top 3 is, in my oppinion, Cypher.

Hopefully we will see many even games, dominated by tactical skills rather than aiming skills, and obviously a few unexpected results would make the tournament a bit more interesting!

if linkin wins a qualifying spot at his national qualifier, 7/8 is possible. but the likelihood of that happening isn't very high. the same with 8/8 -- it's technically possible, but not very likely. one example for 7/8:

(A) fooki/ddk, (B) noctis, (C) killsen/linkin, (D) fox/rapha/or matr0x

though 5/8 and 6/8 are entirely within the scope of "maybe". i wonder what they'd do in the event of 6/8. a playoff amongst the 3rd place finishers from each group, perhaps? but then what if one or some of those already have a qualifying slot as well :)

this could get ugly if not well-thought out.

Whats all the fuss about group C? Its hardly the toughest group. Only good contender is CZM. ZeRo4 might be on his old form but his old form wont be enough these days. He is and will be slacking. Vo0.... not really. Maybe good in PK, but he will get his ass spanked in Q3. K1llsen. Yes he is good, really good. Maybe even gonna get threw this group alongside CZM. Others i think wont have a chance.

Now for the people advancing (ive been out quite a while so i dont know the strength of the americans like rapha). But seeing a couple of demos of rapha he seems ok, but i think he lacks tournament experience so i dont think he will get far.

Advancements:

I think arrw has the best aim in quake 3 right now. Too bad he is so accurate, so accurate that he tends to hit rails/ rush with lg instead of spamming rockets to take over map control. :(

I'm talking about duel. Toxic used his rail sparingly in his cooller match, but was hitting him all the time. Made cooller just complain about rail then quit the match. THAT is godly. And it was in OSP. AND on ZTN coollers map.

TBH the more important stat is damage dealt imo, you can gauge how a match went a lot more off that than %. I mean there were some famous eurocup games where stelam had like 100% rail accuracy...cos he only shot it 7 times and while watching corners with unmatched's slow tactical style.

The real problem is that, unless czm and zero4 qualify, we're going to be missing two of the greatest players of all time in what could possibly be the most competitive ESWC final (in terms of big name attendance) since 2003.

I don't care who wins, but the qualification spots need to go to czm, z4 and jibo.

ZeRo4 on hub will dominate EVERYONE. ZeRo4 played walter and czm on hub repeatedly. Now he can decimate them both. His rockets are mind bogling. And his rail has become pt-4 standard on hub3. This will be hilarious.

Oh man, don't disrespect Z4muZ. IMO he was one of the most skilled players to ever touch this game. Personally, I think besides uNkind he was one of the few "natural talents" in Q3. I remember that there was a time when literally no one could touch him in Sweden in 1v1. He had one of the most craziest aim I've seen in Quake and his brain/tactical game was often flawless. Ask top players who was their most feared opponent during tournaments, and I'm sure Z4muZ will be on top of most of the lists. I mean in his career was there any player whom he didn't beat?

And as for "never won anything":
1st at ESWC 2004 (with team Sweden)
2nd at QLAN (Cooller won)
2nd at QCON 2003 (Z4 won)
3rd at QLAN 2 (after czm and fooKi)

sorry to tell you this but zamuz actually lost his game in the final vs usa at eswc 2004.. he played czm on ztn and lost with a point or two, after not chasing czm through the teleporter when he was low on health and was about to tie the game.. bummer, but luckily fox pulled out a win vs zero4 on hub and fooki destroyed chaoticz on dm6 x)

no disrespect to zamuz, i think you're right.. he was obviously one of the best at his prime..

the only interesting part of that quote from toxic is the word "easily", and the reason for that is that he would need to practice a lot to get in the best shape he can be.. but the question that makes his quote true or false is if he consider practicing being easy or not..

and since i know toxic, he could play 20 maps a day for 3 weeks straight if there was enough reason for him to do so..

cypher just looks very well practised with incredible aim and seems to fall into a comfort zone where everything seems so effortless

-Player A chooses one of the 2 remaining maps.
- The match is played on the two maps chosen by the players and starts on the player
B choice.
- The last map will be used as third map.

2 games on each player's "home" map would probably lead to a lot of 2-1 splits which is a good thing IMO.
