After remembering some old Halo I Fun Videos in the past, where players had fun with vehicles, physics, bugs and stuff, gameriot point me to a youtube vid collection from gloob.tv with Halo 3 vids.
Halo 3 video stuff is pretty awesome and I think the stuff players have done with it speaks for itself. I can't wait for more big games to adopt in-game filming.
We've got a workaround for stuff like that on PC because of applications like Fraps but many console games have gone under recorded because it takes a bit of resources and set-up to record from TV. Also, even with the ability to directly record the picture most games still won't offer much in the way of camera angles, slow-mo and instant replay.
Nowadays games had generally a good physic engine, like Half-Life 2 is physic demonstration only, but way back when Halo was "the" game i was impressed by all the stuff what can happened in the game.
One of my favorite is the "attack" by a flying traffic pilon/cone, ownd.
Im searching this well know stuntman video from Halo I, where players on vehicles jump from a cliff into the sea :]
I found it, Warthog Jump: A Halo Physics Experiment

Hmm there was this nice Halo 1 vid where they launched humvees in the air with a ton of hand grenades. Was nicely done with music and all, will try to dig it up
I played Halo 3 DM and RR yesterday. I hoped it would be better than Halo 2, but no, it was even worse. Also, I had to suffer a fucking British retard insulting me because I wanted to do rocket jumps with the quad in RR.
I don't think I'll ever understand the popularity of Halo.
I guess it's kind of the best you can get with a joypad ?
also huge $ commercials
also no fps market competition in console world
also 1st online -working- console fps ?
also I remember someone saying in esr that halo1 did'nt have an aimbot, so the game was actually skilled, and so : fun
by working I clumsily wanted to mean the first mass played
I know 17 guys played q3 5min online with a dreamcast's joypad ; it's like wolf3D wasn't the first fps at all, but who cares, that's the one that count
Well if I recall correctly Halo1 didn't even have online play (Untill the PC version).
So for a start it's Halo2 you want and secondly while I may be incorrect but I'm sure there were some big shooting games with Live play before Halo2.
Also I don't think Q3 on DC had aimbot and the controls were pretty damn awesome for a joypad and quite intuitive (You could even hook up the DC keyboard and mouse). So not only was it before Halo came out, it was online way before the Halo series got there, was played a lot (considering) and didn't have all the gay ass shit console FPS's usually do.
With your logic the next "biggest" played game would always be the first "working" MP console fps.
The fact is, it started with Q3 (unless someone else can think of another) which was quite popular and it worked, and you could even play vs PC players!
