Apart from the basics like maxfps/refreshrate etc.

I found that when I obsessed over thing's like config's I was over looking my own fundamental mistakes.Patience is my in game weakness.

A job I got purely based on the skill/knowledge of a game called Killer Instinct.

If you got paid for playing killer instinct (or insert other game) then yes, you would be more of a pro gamer. If you got paid for testing games, then no you are not by any means a pro gamer, regardless of how you got your position as a game tester. Testing games/looking for bugs, and excelling/competing/profiting from your skills in a game are very different things.

45 hrs a week is hardcore, i couldnt do it, id be knackered all the time

nah, really depends on if it's an interesting job or not. I know people who work up to 70 hours a week, almost every week.

Also, there is lots of people taking 2h to commute to work every day. And they still have a life.

yeah, but that onl;y leaves like 4hrs, or so if they need the average 8 hrs sleep :( i think its so sad when people only have that much free time, but then im a relaxation junkie and am yet to find a job i actually like...

Passed all that, just failed on 20th century ideals on what makes someone capable of doing something without spenidng 6 yrs eating pasta bakes and getting in debt and having a bit of paper at the end of it.

Bill gates and MS should be stark reminder to everyone that a uni degree are not the be all and end all.
They just buy you "he must be smart and capable" status in the eyes of very ignorant people, who sadly seem to be in positions of power.
