I'm no law student, but I'm sure it's only illegal in the case of employers or when you take physical action against someone, not just words. Maybe it's classed as inciting racial hatrid or some other such bullshit.

Yeah, but calling someone an arsehole isn't really slander is it? I mean it's a judgement, judgements can't be right or wrong, so the law has no power there. Calling someone a black or white arsehole is just an extention of the former, except with a factual refference to the colour of someones skin. Basically, calling someone a white / black arsehole doesn't fall under slander.

I just don't think you should be jailed for 3 years for saying anything, ever. Even if you said all black people should be forced to watch their mothers being raped, be sodomised by a large wooden stick and then finally gassed, I don't think you should spend a minute in jail or even fall under the duristiction of the law. Words don't take away anyones liberty, not directly, nor do they harm someone physically, nor do they steal; I believe in the right to free speech.

The law is meant to protect society, but I don't think it should ever protect someone against words. Of course, what this guy said, in most rational peoples minds, was wrong; but the law isn't there to make moral judgements, it's their to, as I said before, protect society. I'm just finding it difficult to comprehend being put into jail for simply using words - We're meant to have free speech, ffs.

I'm not making any moral judgements, but people should be allowed to express their opinions through words, regardless of the opinion.

If someone tells you to blow yourself up, then not I don't think the law should intervene, because it's just an opinion. If that person then starts to give you a date, place and some explosives, then obviously the law should intervene: the original opinion has become a reality.
