walter isn't really new. he's been playing as telnet for a few years, as far as I remember. he's been playing as walter more recently, and he... has really, really, really amazing aim even with a pretty high ping.

there were some oddities in his games, indeed, but bio is good and apparently just didn't know hub. it's walter's best map.

but I've seen walter to lose plenty of times to guys that bio, carnage, or chance would rape regularly. he seems to attribute it to being inconsistent.

I don't know if that's true or not. I know how it feels to be inconsistent.
(a week or two ago I was holding my own against palarity and others, and then a few nights ago I was playing like a total idiot and getting raped.)

it's pretty funny how walter called several timeouts when his ping went up and just timed back in immediately afterward, though. I doubt he's cheating, but I still find it amusing.

I only saw one little bit (maybe 3-4 seconds battle) where the scenario you describe occured, and, in fact, there was nothing at all suspicious about it.

it was: chance standing at mg ammo in mega hallway, walter standing at rail room shards.
standard procedure is fire two times and back away.

Getting beaten hard by a well know high skilled player is one thing. Getting beaten by a relatively unknown player (compared to the well known high skilled one) is another matter :P Maybe not so easy to accept the loss then.

chance COULD have won but Walter got in his head and made him play like shit. If you can make your opponent play shitty by getting in their head its still a win.

I decided to bother myself with watching this demo, and it looks like walter actually looked rather... noob. Made shots and moves that I would have been able to make myself, except I'm horrible with my lg. Which is to also say, chance had made a few too many bad moves himself.

If this is what we can expect of sportsmanship from people playing Q3, it just goes to show that perhaps either it shouldn't have become the majority voted game for CPL, or chance should think about quitting altogether.

map knowledge dictates strategy not ping, unless u got like 180,ms and railing and LG'ing is useless, then sure, but at 80ping, which is where u were averageing i think there shouldnt be that huge a difference.

ugh no, it does have an effect to a certain extent.

There are plenty of situations where you can attempt stuff, put yourself in different positions and align yourself up for different shots depending on the ping.

The shots are not really special, at all... maybe if chance waited a little longer to complain after some more of the fl icky ones (certainly while walter was on the run) then he would have a little more base.

To say "I can tell from one shot" is a joke though and is a definite pride matter as far as this game goes. Certainly when them shots (if I recall correctly) were done in clear view. Like someone said already, had this been socrates, czm, daler, cha0ticz, or cl0ck etc then nothing would have been mentioned.

The movement wasn't bad as such, there just seemed to be a little too much of a gap between the jumps and the his choice of map lines were not what most take. No flow more than anything, but then that doesn't mean anything really, considering it always looked like ZeRo4 was moving around a map blindfolded he was that clumsy at times.

That's my take on it anyway, need more demos.

Just a simple example: I was playing fooki ages ago in OSP on a UK sever I think, I had sub 15ms, he was in his 25-35ms if anything. I was at the bottom of the RA stairs on pro-q3dm6 with shaft, he was coming down them. "That wouldn't work at all on LAN or equal ping". There were a few others even though he still ripped me a second arsehole. what a cunt :(

but it is not like my ping was 100, and stayed there. hell, if my ping was 120, and was a consistent 120, it would have been easier..the problem is the ping jumping randomly 50-60 ms, every try hitting a rail when it does that? i could not hit carnage at all on ztn :/

This is where you're wrong. See people practice with higher pings. Such as 120-160. Now after a few hours/weeks, playing with this ping, playing with anything less becomes like 30. Atleast to me this is true. Try it, if you can handle it. Play with 150 ping for a half hour, then drop down to 120. And the same again to 100,80, etc... I bet it becomes easier. From talks with walter, he practices on euro servers routinely. I mean you americans are such whiney bastards about hacks, and it seems alot of you do hack, but not everyone does. No honor in america.

Well it is kinda funny to see telnet being accused of hacking after he has done the same thing to others but based on the demo I really don't see clear hacking.

I don't care much for the guy but I do know he has improved a lot and was playing q3 during the lull before and just after q4 was released. Him going from being some average guy to someone with skill while most people weren't around to notice could have a lot to do with the accusation; as people have said if chance was playing a known 1v1 player then I doubt he would have said anything.

On top of all the other fishy things going on in these games-- in the final dm6 game vs carnage, right at the beginning from the first TWO jumps, he is CLEARLY moving faster than in any demo i've seen of someone in cpma vq3 recently, let alone what a typical cpma demo is supposed to look like with that slower 76fps stuff.

By the end of his second jump on the bridge on dm6 in the carnage final at the beginning, if you timescale it slower, you see that he clears 600ups as he lands. how does that even get done with the slower physics in cpma?

75% rail in the first 3 mins, on 80 ping, I can see why chance was 'shocked' into believing he was cheating.

Perhaps this is all due to the improved netcode in cpma, in OSP I doubt it would have been 75% rail, more like 30%.

But still, chance should have played his best game and won. It was obvious chance gave up after 3 mins and didn't even try. I'm sure he'd have won this if he took his opponent seriously.

here's something weird: when I originally watched these games (live and demos), I thought some of the shots walter made looked weird, though I never suspected him of cheating.

however, after having played about 50+ games recently (though I've given up on the game again because I think I really just don't enjoy playing. I'm pretty sure that's why I play inconsistently; I seem to only do well when friends are watching me and expect me to), I come back to watch these demos, and I'm not impressed by any of the 'suspicious' shots at all. in fact, I just watched the favorite--his game versus chance on ztn, and I had to actually replay the demo after the 'suspicious' shot, because, at first, I didn't even recognize it as being anything remotely interesting. when watching again, I feel the same way.

but here is something everyone should note:

many of the 'weird' rails that walter manages to hit are a result of CPMA (CPM? whatever. I get those mixed up)'s horrible "netcode."

I've watched a lot of games recently; I've seen other players taking notice of this, and I've noticed it in games I've played myself as well as demos and spectating.

when you rail 2-3 feet behind a model, the rail REGISTERS.

this is why walter's rail hits in the other carnage dm6 game on here at the 4:47 mark (carnage tucks in behind the curve to the left of the LG room on dm6, looking from LG toward the wall spawn [adjacent to 25h] and water, from lg, gets the angle on him with a rail and lands).

this is why the rail in this carnage dm6 game hits (walter attacks RA from mid, carnage is hiding behind the stairs and comes out, gets LGed, tries to run, and, by all accounts, SHOULD have the distance on walter, but, as can clearly be seen from the demo, the rail that walter fires lands behind carnage and it still registers).

for some reason, my Q3 senses were really dulled when I hadn't played the game for a while, but now they're refined, and I see nothing at all suspicious, save for the fact that walter likes to spam rails a lot.

he is probably more nervous than anything; even I do it sometimes. up close and you're losing a fight or you're about to run out of LG cells? pull out the rail.

since I've decided to come back and watch walter demos, from the first one and until now (I've watched about five so far), I've seen absolutely nothing suspicious in the way of 'wallhacks,' 'aimbots,' or anything of the sort.

even though I never really suspected walter of cheating before and don't really care, I feel like this needs an update, if not for the fact that the CPMA rail is off, and it should be noted.

it should really be fixed.
